With Victoria Day just around the corner, Canadians are heading to cottages and family/friend’s houses to celebrate the extra day off work (and of course Queen Victoria’s Birthday!). For many  people, this long weekend marks the unofficial start to summer! Opening cottages, cleaning up backyards and bringing out the patio furniture are just a few activities that will being happening.  I may not have big or elaborate plans this long weekend, but one thing I know my family will be doing firing up the barbecue.

No outdoor get together would be complete without BBQ foods! Whether you crave a juicy T-bone steak, the smokey flavours of a chicken done right or perfectly grilled vegetables, nothing makes the meal come together more than proper flavorful preparation.  In our family, my husband is the grill master. Already a fabulous cook, his love for flavours and textures are heightened when you throw in the grill as a cooking tool. He will spend hours searching for different spice combinations, marinades, and rubs and the results will yield a meal that friends and family will talk about for years to come.

What type of Grill Master are YOU?

Some backyard chefs prefer to keep their tried-and-true recipe under wraps. An Ipsos poll conducted earlier this month for Sabra Canada shed light on how willing Canadian grillers were to share their secret sauce:

  • 15 per cent of Canadians who barbecue have a secret go-to sauce that they won’t share with anyone.
  • 2 in 10 Canadians who barbecue have a not-so-secret go-to sauce, with a recipe they have shared with others.
  • Millennials are more likely than both Gen X’ers and Baby Boomers to have a secret sauce that makes their summer barbecue a success.
  • Prairie pit masters in Saskatchewan and Manitoba (51 per cent) are most likely to have a secret sauce for barbecue season, followed by their west coast neighbours in British Columbia (45 per cent).

He has mastered mouthwatering Greek inspired hamburgers, to die for beer can chicken and his steaks just melt in your mouth! This long weekend, Sabra Canada challenged us to change up our tried and true grilling recipe for a Mediterranean marinade that involves their own special ingredient – Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus!
