Spring is in the air and with it comes Wedding Season! One of my favourite parts of Wedding season is seeing the new hair trends. From poofy to sleek, long to pulled back, the Bride’s Hair style is almost as important as the dress. One hairstyle that never seems to go out of style is braids! I remember when I was around 5 years old, my family took a trip to New York City for my Dad’s cousins wedding. Wanting my sister and I to look fancy, my mom did our hair in beautiful French Braids. We looked so cute. Fifteen minutes before the service was about to begin, we were in the ladies room when the two flower girls (about our age) and their mother walked in. Their hair was a disaster! What was once a French braid was falling apart faster then you could say French Braid. The mother was almost in tears. They had spent a lot of money to have them done by a professional and the hair styles didn’t even last long enough for the ceremony to begin! When the mother of the flower girls saw our hair, she asked where we got it done. My mom told her she did it and would be happy to redo her girl’s hair. Let’s say these two flowers girls stole the show!
My mom has always been amazing a braiding hair. When I was a bit older, I fell in love with a braid called the roll. It starts on either side of your head and connected at the back. You can either do all your hair or create a crown leaving half your hair down. I loved it so much so, that my mom did it for my wedding! Braiding toddler hair for things like weddings and fancy parties can be difficult. Toddlers have very thin hair and hair tends to not hold well. Here is my attempt at recreating my mom’s roll!
Toddler Friendly Hair: A Wedding Roll
Step 1: Make your toddler’s hair damp. My favourite product is Kandoo’s detangler.
Not only does it help get any knots out of your hair and make it damp, but it makes its smell great too.
Step 2: Part the hair. It is easiest if you part it where the hair naturally wants to part.
Step 3: Gather two strains of hair. Put one over top of the other.
Step 4: Grab another strain of hair and add it to the bottom strain. Cross over.
Step 5: Continue this grab and twisting all the way down one side. Use an elastic to hold it tight.
Step 6: Start the process again on the other side.
Step 7: When the two sections meet, braid them together.
After a little practice (and some patience on the side of your toddler!), this hair is very wedding worthy! Add a few flowers and your little girl will steel the show!
