Video games are huge in my household. With two tween boys, we have everything from Xbox to Nintendo to Playstation. If given the choice they would place their butts in front of their gaming systems and not move until food or the washroom dragged them away. They love playing games with story lines where they can pretend they are a superhero or well know adventurer or creative games where they can build something out of nothing and see their vision come alive. What can I say? They are typical boys of the 21st Century.
My daughter, on the other hand, is a total girly girl. She loves things that are soft, pink and pretty. She will spend hours combing a dolls hair or lining up little characters in rainbow order. She occasional likes to play video games like her brothers, but the games she choose, girlish side: bright colours, fuzzy animals, and things with hearts and flowers.
Recently, we were invited to the #XboxTogether Event and had an opportunity to try out the latest and greatest games. Unfortunately, my boys were away camping that weekend with the Scouts, so my daughter and I attended alone. We tried all the latest and hottest games released for the holiday season and she enjoyed them, but none of them tended to hold her attention for more than a few minutes. It would be too hard or too boring and she would give up and move onto another game. There was one game that captured and held her attention and that was Starlink: Battle for Atlas.
Starlink: Battle for Atlas is an action-adventure game that takes you on an interplanetary adventure. Created by Ubisoft, This games allows you to build your starship and mount it on your game controller to create an more hands on epic space combat adventure. The object of this game is to unite galaxy with galaxy to create a heroic team of interstellar pilots to free the Atlas stay system from the villainous Forgotten Legion. This game is great for age 7+. It allows the younger ones to build ships and complete mission while it gives older players a more mature in depth experience.
My daughter was intrigued from the moment she saw it! She loved that she could mix and match pilots, hulls, wings, and weapons to assemble the starship of her dreams. Each of the snap-on ships and weapons has their own attributes that are enhanced by mods collected throughout the game. When she hit a challenge she couldn’t over come, she simply changed an aspect of her starship to level up her skills and she was able to defeat them. The best part is when a physical adaption was made to the ship, it immediately occurred on the screen too. She caught on fast to this game and was locked into the adventure. No wonder it is one of the hottest video games for 2018!
