NERF blasters are a huge hit in my household. From target practice to sibling shooting, it isn’t uncommon to find a bullet whizzing past your head. Unfortunately (or in my case, FORTUNATELY!), the NERF orange bullets have a short life span in my house. Lost under couches, shot behind shelving units or the occasional chew toy for the dog and cat, the bullets seem to disappear at an alarming rate. What if you could replace those well known orange bullets with a laser instead? NERF did just that and created a new line up of laser blasters called the NERF Laser Ops Pro system.
Nerf Laser Ops Pro
Nerf Laser Ops Pro is an amazing new blaster series that incorporates the quality and exciting play that you have come to love from NERF and upgraded it with laser capabilities. Right out of the box, the Nerf Laser Ops Pro are ready for head-to-head, live-action laser battles taking laser tag to a whole new level! The blasters are equipped with infrared bursts that register with lights, vibrations and sound effects when fired or hit. Pieces move, the blasters vibrate, and the sound effects are surprisingly loud. There is a switch on the blaster that allows you select indoor or outdoor light to ensure you have the best experience possible. Each blaster allows you to track your health and ammo while in the midst of battle. The blasters work in conjunction with Bluetooth technology and the Nerf Laser Ops Pro app to proved you with the ability to customize their blasters, track their performance, earn power-ups and locate opponents during battle.
The Nerf Laser Ops Pro is designed for both solo and multiplayer options. In the solo option, you simply attach the solo attachment and your smartphone to the front of your blaster and begin battling drones (or chicken robots a my son affectionately refers to them!) in AR technology. Imagine, your home or is backyard is being taken over and only you and your Nerf Laser Ops Pro can stop it! It’s pretty cool how the the picture on your phone is your current location with the addition of drones you are after. In the multiplayer option, the Nerf Laser Ops Pro app becomes an important communication tool used to search out rivals while keeping track of your own health and ammo during battle. With the option to use one smartphone device or multiple, you are provided with real time battle intel allowing you know where you stand in the battle. When you’re hit lights, sounds and vibrations occur placing the blaster is placed in a 15 second timeout before you are able to resume shooting the enemy.
Currently, there are two Nerf Laser Ops Pro app that series there are two blasters available, the one-handed AlphaPoint that’s priced at $29 (which is also available in a two-pack for $44.99), and the larger two-handed DeltaBurst that’s priced at $79.99.
Nerf Laser Ops Pro AlphaPoint – The AlphaPoint is a single-shot IR burst blaster that allows players to team up or attack in a free-for-all laser battle. This blaster can be purchased individual or in a set of 2 and is outfitted with rubberized armband to hold your smartphone during battle. The pull of the trigger produces lights and sounds as it releases an infra red beam at your target and an unlimited supply of shots can be obtained with the use of the quick reload button on the butt of the blaster. Lights and sound effects will notify players when they have been hit, while the lightening bolt and “+” sign on the back of the blaster indicate health status and ammo capacity.
Nerf Laser Ops Pro DeltaBurst –The DeltaBurst is a bigger, badder laser rifle. With more lights, sounds, moving parts and kick back, this blaster means business on the battle field. This blaster fires a three-shot IR burst and can be quickly reloaded with a press of the reload button on the bottom section of the barrel. Similar to the AlphaPoint, it registers a hit with lights and sounds, while an LCD screen on the back of the blaster displays health status and ammo capacity.
These laser blasters were fun right out of the box (after mom installed the batteries!). My 10 & 12 year old sons were able to set up the app and register their blasters in minutes! They loved that they could play individual and different smartphone devices or together if only one smartphone was available. I loved that they could shoot each other (and the cat!) without the complaints of being hit by a foam bullet. I also loved that there was no visible laser beam produced by the blasters. Too often, when a laser is used in a product, I worry about the beam being shone into someones eye, but with these blasters I didn’t have to. The lights, sounds and physical feedback provided accurate and impossible to deny hits, diminishing fights between siblings. Finally, I have a NERF blaster that the kids can take outside and not have to worry about the search for missing bullets. Its hours and hours of fun for kids and adults alike.
