The holidays are almost here and our home is buzzing with excitement. We can’t wait for the snowfall, the presents to be wrapped under the tree and a hot cocoa in our hands. As we finish up last minute Christmas tasks, I am always on the hunt for new and festive crafts to do with my kids. I like unique and traditional decorations so this year, with the help of STAPLES Canada, I challenged myself to come up with 5 holiday crafts inspired by office supplies to get us in the holiday spirit. The best pair is the decorations that make beautiful items for the home, the office or classroom. If you are looking for a fun holiday craft to add some joy to space or an unique gift idea, give these office supply crafts a try!!
Meter stick Christmas tree
Take one meter stick and cut it with a saw. You need to cut the meter stick into pieces that measure 2 inch, 3 inches, 4 inches, 5 inches, 6 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches and 8 inches. You will have a little bit left over to use as the trunk. Using a hot glue gun, you will start with the smallest piece and glue them horizontal in ascending order until you only have the trunk pieces left. Glue that one horizontal in the center of the largest piece. Add bit and pieces such as pine cones, beads etc. to decorate your tree. Use the existing hole on the meter stick to place a ribbon to hang it up with.
Thumb Tack Ornament
What I love about this craft is it is very simple but when it’s done it reminds me of a mermaid tail. You start with a Styrofoam ball, a 4 inch piece of ribbon, and a package of thumb tacks. Fold the ribbon in half and secure it to the top of the ball with a tack. Working in a circular motion, slightly overlap the tacks, work you way around the ball until it is completely covered. Hang it on the tree, add to a wreath or hang on a door handle as an add decorations.
