Christmas season is the best time of the year. It’s a time for family, friends, and lots of fun Sadly, statistics also indicate that crime such as burglaries spike this time of year. Burglars love this time of year. empty houses, an influx of expensive presents and extra money lying around, the temptation is great. That combined with shopping, parties, and visiting come with the holiday season, leave house empty and prime for the picking. It’s important to remember to practice good home security so that you can have a safe and happy holidays.
1. Keep Your Plans Offline
Whether is a planned day of shopping downtown or a quick weekend away, it is VERY important to resist the temptation to share the world you will be away. By posting your travel plans on your social media networks, such as where you are going, when you are leaving, or when you will be back, you will provide the exact information that burglars need to know and when your house will be empty. The social world is my world and I am horrible for sharing every little detail with you. To be safe, it is better to share the pictures and experience, once you return home.
2. Notify a Neighbour
From frozen pipes to electrical, it is always a good idea to let a close neighbour know when you will be out of your home. Asking them to drive by, pick up newspapers/mail and check in on the house once in awhile, can prevent devastating disasters (i.e. floods, fires, etc) and can make your home look habitable.
3. Keep the Lights On
A dark house is a recipe for disaster. Nobody sits home alone every day and night in the dark, so this is a clear sign to burglars that nobody is home. By setting your lights on a timer during peak home periods, you can keep the burglars guessing if someone is home.
4. Keep gifts out of sight
Although, it may seem obvious to hide the presents from the kids, it isn’t always true when it comes to extended family presents. Presents in the open provide burglars easy access and make it very tempting to break in. Find a room that is out of sight and out of the view of windows. Store your presents there and even lock it. This will keep them out of sight of burglars and children!
5. Monitor your home with Circle 2
Whether it’s keeping a watchful eye in and around your home, or just checking that your Amazon package arrived on the porch, The Circle 2 home security camera helps you stay focused on the important things (hosting the in-laws, hitting the road in time for Thanksgiving dinner, or getting the best deals on gifts) and while keeping your home safe and secure.
I am a huge fan of Circle Products. The Circle, the original indoor security camera was perfect for monitoring my kids and the puppy while I was at work. When I heard that they had created the Logitech Circle 2 with a wider-angle lens, weather-proofing, better battery life and more mounting options, I knew this would the ultimate tool for holiday security.
Like the Circle, Logitech’s big sell with the Circle 2 is the ease of setup. It’s as easy as taking the camera out of the box, connecting it to power and downloading the Logi Circle app from Google Play or iTunes to your phone. The app is straight forward and will have you connect to your home’s Wifi in minutes and provide you with a 180 degree field of view.
It is one of the most versatile security cameras on the market and it can be used anywhere in the home. Designed to brave the cold and heat it can operate between -20 C and 50 C. Thanks to the vast accessories, you can mount in on window, plug it into any outlet, mount it on the ceiling or wall and place it out side with the Weatherproof extension (15 feet).
