No more excuses.
No more fad diets, hyped up exercise routines and fancy shakes. I need to take control of my life and my health and I have to start today. I have always a had a problem with my digestive system. When I was younger it was acid reflex and lactose intolerance and as I matured (haha) into an adult, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I’m not surprised when you google health, that gut health is getting a lot of attention! Both doctors and naturopaths agree that overall health and well functioning immune system can be achieved through good gut health.
More Power to your Gut
Your gut is the engine of our body. It is responsible for processing your food and extracting the minerals and vitamins that your body needs to survive. It is also responsible for 70% of your immune system. To keep your gut healthy you need to have a healthy balance of the good and bad bacteria in your digestive system. There are over 1000 types of bacteria in the digestive system with Lactobacilli an (found in the large intestine) and Bifidobacterium (in the lower intestine). When a person experiences things like the aging process, stress, and medications (i.e. antibiotics) this can deplete the good bacteria from your digestive tract. The results can be anything from brain fog, fatigue, bloating or skin conditions (i.e. eczema, acne and Rosacea).
How to Correct this imbalance:
This month, I am starting my health journey at my gut. My theory is if I can promote healthy gut function, I will not only feel better and have more energy, but I will become healthier overall. These are the major steps and tools I’m going to use to do it.
- Bellabeat Leaf – The bellabeat leaf is a smart piece of jewelry. No buttons or screens, this beautiful leaf collects data on sleep, activity, stress and menstruation and sends a complete analysis of your day to an app on your smartphone. It will alert me on the quality of my sleep, if I meet my activity goal, provide me with guided relaxation and breathing sessions, predict the causes to stress and my menstruation cycle , all well relating it to my overall wellness.
- The Keto Diet – I am going to attempt to incorporate the Keto diet into my eating habits. This diet focuses on minimizing carbs and consuming a high-fat diet. This diet focuses on reducing sugar, caffeine and alcohol while increasing water and protein. The Complete Guide to the Keto Diet by Leanne Vogel, I am hoping to shed weight, heal my body and help me to regain my confidence.
- RenewLife -Consuming fermented foods and beverages my be a great way to feed and boost good bacteria, you don’t necessarily get the variety of strains that is ideal of ultimate gut health. A probiotic, such as Renewlife provides a heftier dose of probiotics than food (i.e yogurt – 1 billion, probiotic – 50 billion) and can contain up to 12 different bacteria strains in one dose. Probiotics help good bacteria to grow naturally and help decrease intestinal inflammation.
Stay tuned as I take this health journey for the 30 days of November! I’ll be sharing recipes, my thoughts and feelings! At the end, I will give you a review of my journey and how I feel!
