A husband that works every weekend, three busy kids and a dog, means that summer is spent close to home. That doesn’t mean that we don’t try to get away for a weekend here and there! As a celebration to the start of summer and a job well done at school, I took the kids for a weekend to Sherkston Shores.
Sherkston Shores is a large campground and trailer park on the shores of Lake Erie. It offers 560 acres of beautiful landscape, topped off with two and a half miles of sandy beachfront! A little far from our home (3 hours), we decided to make the trek to mark a bit of family history touching another one of Canada’s Great Lakes. Once we got through Toronto, it was smooth sailing through the Niagara area.
To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect. I had read on the website that the park offers many amenities ( including outdoor pools, kids splash zone, hot tub, beach, water slides, mini-putt, tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, baseball, redemption arcade and skate park), but I wasn’t sure what kind of vibe it would give off. Some trailer parks we have visited, have been very friendly and welcoming to outside guests, others have been very clique’ and shun them. From the moment we arrived we were in shock! It was HUGE! The slides, the pools, the amenities! The kids didn’t know where to look first!
We were greeted with cheery faces and provided with a ton of information at the welcome center. The receptionist even took time to engage the kids and get them excited for our weekend ahead. When people acknowledge my kids, it ensures me that we have arrived at a TRUE family friendly place.
Our accommodations for the weekend, included a fully loaded trailer! It slept 6 (1 queen bed, 1 set of bunk beds and a pull out couch). Everything was clean and in good shape. We were even treated to some snacks for the duration of our stay!
Video of Trailer:
Sherkston Shores offers many different options and affordable price ranges for their resort. You can camp in tents, rent a rustic cabin, bring your own trailer, or rent/buy a trailer.
Although the weather was on the chilly side, it didn’t stop the kids and me from enjoying the water slides and pool. Sherkston Shores has three water slides. You must be 42″ to ride them with a parent and 48″ to ride them alone. Luckily, DD5 squeaked through at exactly 42″ but it was reassuring to know that they did check often to ensure that everyone riding the slides were safe.
RIDE A SLIDE WITH US:
Along with the slides, there are two pools, a hot tub (for 16+ only), a kiddie pool and splash pad. The water in all of the pool was relatively warm and like most splash pads, that water was cool. The place was packed and a I did notice that parts of the deck were sectioned off for owner only. It didn’t really impact my stay, as there seemed to be enough chairs and tables for everyone.
A Mini tour of the amenities:

Overall, our weekend was amazing. With tons to do, we were go go go from the moment we woke to the moment we went to sleep. We met many amazing people (both renters and owners) onsite and they all conveyed the same message. Sherkston Shores was there home away from home. From kids who don’t remember a summer not at Sherkston Shores to a 41 year old gentleman who had becoming to Sherkston Shores since he was 12 years old and now brings his own family. We love the just pull in, set up and enjoy mentality. The smell of the crackling campfires, giggling children and the faint sound of the waves hitting the shoreline are memories we won’t forget!
