Growing up in a family of girls, guns where not a part of my imaginary play. We preferred things like dolls, ponies and play food. When I had boys, I didn’t know what to expect. Cars and trains, were a given, but the idea of guns was controversial for me. My first instinct was to ban guns from their play. I refused to buy them, create them out of a Lego, or allow anything ‘gun’ like in my home. Much to my dismay, my boys still lusted after guns. A stick, a ruler or even their fingers would magically transport into a gun and would somehow emerge in every play scenario they came up with.
The problem is children don’t see their own play through the same lens that adults do. To children, gun play is play, while adults view it as a form of violence. The more you ban it, the more they obsess with it they become. Allow them to explore gun play through imagination, the more they move beyond the violent aspect of guns. It was from that moment, that I gave up my hate for guns and began to encourage them in a positive way.
NERF N-Strike MEGA Mastodon Blaster
Nerf has always been our weapon of choice! With its soft darts and brilliant colours, they have inspired many target challenges and provided many laughs for our family. From simple blasters like the Nerf Double Strike, to Ultimate Supersoaker water gun, my kids are always lusting after the latest and greatest Nerf Blaster! This Christmas is no different. At the top of their list is the Nerf N-Strike MEGA Mastodon Blaster.
This is the biggest and baddest blaster I have ever seen!! This Nerf gun features the first motorized dart launcher. When you have it going, it is really something to see. It will launch the darts from the 24-dart drum up to distances of 28 meters. The accuracy is outstanding! With a steady hand and good eye, you can hit your target with 80% accuracy!
This blaster is extremely large and it is designed for children ages 8+. Most times, I use this as a mild guideline, but with this blaster, it can be awkward for smaller hands. Luckily, it comes with a shoulder strap to help stabilize the gun and keep it close to you at all times. Reloading is made easy with its open face barrel. You can add darts easily, but be sure that you place them in all the way or they will jam in the barrel. Choose your target carefully you only have 24 darts!
Rapid firing speed, good ranges, and the ability to top-up the blaster on-the-fly means you will dominate the playing field. The only problem you will have is deciding which kid you should buy it for (the BIG or Little one)!
