Are you a Cat person?
Who doesn’t love cats – really?
Growing up, I was EXTREMELY allergic to cats. I could enter a house with a cat in it and immediately my eyes would water, my nose would become stuffed and I would sneeze continuously until I left the house. It wasn’t until I met my hubby that my love for cats grew.
He had two cats Boots (a brown tabby with white paws, the MOM)
and Harry (short for Harriett, a long hair grey cat, aka the Daughter).
Boots was a mean ol’ cat. She did what she wanted, cuddled when she wanted and swatted at you when she didn’t want you around. Harry, on the other hand, was a sweet, docile cat. I don’t know if it was because her hair fell out in cottony clumps rather than individual strands like her short haired mother, or if it was her desire for constant affection, but I instantly fell in love with this cat. It inspired me to eventual own my own cats. This leads me to believe that whether you have a cat yourself, sport cat paraphernalia, LOL at the occasional cat video or appreciate a good ol’ fashioned cat meme – we all have an underlying love for cats.
International Cat Day was a few days ago ( on August 8th), but I think cats require the royal treatment everyday! Here are some fun ideas on how to spoil your 4 legged Prince(ss):
- Mixing Play with Exercise. Regular playtime with your cat provides him/her with a stimulating environment and experience – this translates into a healthy, happy and loved cat. My cat never needed a fancy toy to keep him happy! Give him a paper bag, cardboard box or penlight and he was happy to play for hours!! Of course every workout requires a post workout snuggle.
- Turn them on the Greens! You might have noticed that your cat adores catnip and cat grass. Both these substances result in a natural reaction heightens their senses – smell, touch, sight, sound. They will bounce, climb and race around like they are drugs, but remember it is a natural high!
- Keep it clean. Cats are clean animals and take grooming very seriously. So it only makes sense that they’d want a clean litter box area too. Make sure the box always has enough litter in it, is cleaned often and placed in a quiet area with little foot traffic so it feels private and safe. Try Arm & Hammer ™ Clump & Seal™ Lightweight litter – it’s half the weight of our regular clumping litter and provides 7-day odor control, guaranteed.
- Soaking up the Vitamin D up high. Cats love spending lazy days warming themselves in sunny patch on the window sill or on the backs of couches. Cats naturally like finding the highest spots in your house so they can feel safe from predators and keep an eye on their territory. Moving a chair our purchasing a Cat Tree can help your furry friends friend find the ultimate, sunny resting spot!
