Summer fun means camping adventures, trips to the beach and outdoor activities. I love the fresh air, the endless burst of energy and the memories made. What I don’t like is the bugs. From crawling ants that ruin a picnic to long legged spiders that evoke terror straight into my soul, bugs seem to come part and parcel with many summer adventures. The problem with bugs besides the obvious creepiness is the bites.
Bug bites from mosquitoes, biting flies, ticks, and some spiders cause red welts, itching or minimal stinging. Stings from bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, and fire ants, however tend to be more serve and can lead to pain, irritation and in some cases allergic reactions. Your child’s reaction to each bug bite will vary in degree and severity based on how sensitive they are
to the particular insect.
For some reason, DS8 and I both extremely sensitive to bug bites. We have an invisible sign posted on our foreheads that reads “all you can eat buffet”. In a room of 100 people, we are the only two who are guaranteed a bite. Although it may give us pause, we all love spending time outside when the weather is hot and sunny.
Here are a few tips to avoid Mosquitoes (especially if you are irresistible!)
- Avoid sweet smelling beverages and scents: You know how they say its easier to attract Bees with honey than vinegar? The same goes for Mosquitoes. If there is the presence of sugary water or sweet smelling perfume, they are sure to swarm.
- Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon monoxide: Whether it is car engine running or your exhalation during exercising or physical activity, researchers have determined that it is the sweet smell of carbon monoxide that draws them to certain people.
- Dress to Deflect: Mosquitoes care what you wear and they love dark colours. When heading on an outdoor adventure, be sure to dress in lightweight, light-colored fabrics.
Although these tips may help to deter the bugs, a ‘run in’ may occur every once in awhile. Whether you are dealing with a mild little itch or a great deal of swelling and discomfort, Orange Naturals Bites+Stings cream is the best relief. It uses natural antiseptic properties to promote local healing and prevent discoloration, swelling and itching associated with bug bites or stings. My favourite part about this cream is it is ALL NATURAL! That means no artificial colours, no strong odour, no parabens and best of all, NO GLUTEN (safe for external use by those sensitive to absorption of wheat or gluten)!
At the cottage, in your canoe, or at your child’s soccer game, take Orange Naturals Bites+Stings with you to keep the bugs at bay.
