Summer, sun and outdoor fun go hand in hand. This summer especially! It has been one of the hottest and driest summers I can remember. Luckily, there are days like today where the skies open wide and drench the earth in a cooling, refreshing rain. The earth may need it, but it makes for some very bored kids! When my kids are bored, I turn to CRAFTS for entertainment!
I wish I could say I created this craft because it is genius! Unfortunately, it was a crafting video I saw on Facebook (see original video here!). I decided to try and recreate it as a fun and interesting rainy day activity!
Movable 3D Fish Craft
1 piece of construction paper
markers/gems/stickers for decorating
Step 1: Begin with a rectangular piece of construction paper.
Step 2: Take the top left hand corner and fold it over so that the top is flush with right edge. Cut off the bottom strip. Unfold your paper. You will be left with a square and a rectangle piece. Place the rectangle piece aside for later.
Step 3: Rotate the square until the fold goes up and down. Fold the side in to the center line to create and ice cream cone looking structure.
Step 4: Unfold. Fold your square back on the original fold to create a triangle. Holding the fold line, cut 1 cm strips from the first folded line to the next one all along until you have run out of the second fold line.
Step 5: UnFold. Glue the two solid triangles together to create the 3D body of the fish.
Step 6: Flatten the head (aka the piece that is not cut into strips) and round off the tip.
Step 7: Using your scrap rectangle, cut out a heart, two ovals and a half oval for the tail, fins and mouth. Glue them on the bottom.
Congratulations! You now have a Moveable fish!
We took this craft a few steps further!
We added googlie eyes for eyes. We decorated our fish with flashy jewels. When the sun came out, we even ventured outside for a stick and created a fishing pole!
This Craft is great for topics such as camping, Finding Dory, Underwater, and so much more!
