Life is like a roller coaster ride. Sometimes, you are climbing mountains and everything seems to be on the up and up. Then out of nowhere, life plunges down that hill at an alarming speed. As Christians, we are taught that God loves us. When we are at that top of the hill, it’s easy to enjoy God in of all of His glory. You can appreciate the breathtaking views and the anticipation of a world undiscovered. However, when you sail down that steep slope, your stomach goes into your chest, your hands become cold and clammy, and the control and freedom you once felt is replaced by fear and uncertainty. It’s in those times that we desperately seek God, we beg Him to hear our prayers, and help us climb up that hill once more. When he doesn’t respond right away, or the ride feels too fast, our faith waivers. We feel abandoned and lost. We begin to doubt our religious teachings, our beliefs, and even His existence. It isn’t until you view the world in terms of mini Miracles that happen every day, that you will truly feel his power.
Miracles From Heaven
This is the premise of the movie Miracles From Heaven. It is the latest release from producers T.D. Jakes and DeVon Franklin (Heaven Is For Real), based on the incredible true story and memoir of Christy Beam: Miracles from Heaven: A Little Girl, Her Journey to Heaven, and Her Amazing Story of Healing. Christy Beam has an amazing life; three beautiful daughters, a devoted husband who is in the midst of expanding his veterinary practice, and a church that she is passionate about. Then her daughter gets ill. At first, they think it’s the stomach flu, then lactose intolerance, then finally it’s discovered she has an extremely painful and seemingly-incurable stomach disorder. Christy tries to be a rock for her daughter, she tries to climb that next mountain to happiness, but with each obstacle that knocks her down, her faith waivers, until she seriously doubts God’s existence. This feel-good, inspirational film threads universal themes of hope, charity, never giving up, family values, and everyday kindness into a picture that will show you the value of everyday little miracles.
At one point in their life, everyone has faced their own spiritual valleys and can easily sympathize with Beam’s situation. Whether it’s a sick child, a lost job, financial trouble or even family conflicts, we all need to remember that God has a plan for each and every one of us! The Beam’s journey is incredible and the result is a miracle. Let it serve as a reminder that God is always at work, (whether easily recognized or not) and let’s hope it open the hearts of millions of people outside the church walls, so they too can feel God’s love.
