What signals spring time to you? For some people, spring has arrived when the days are longer and sun stays up past 5 pm, for other people it is the warm temperatures, for my family it is the return of our bird family. When we first moved into our house 5 years ago, we placed a homemade bird house on our fence. The first year, we had many ‘birdy’ visitors check it out but no permanent residences. The following spring, a chickadee couple moved it. We watched them for weeks bring bits of grass, leaves and twigs in to the house and it was long before we heard the peeps of baby birds. Every year, we watch and wait for our chickadee family to return. When they do, we know that spring has sprung.
The Legend of the Easter Robin

About the book:The Legend of the Easter Robin tells the story of Tressa and her Gran who witness the miracle of life as a pair of robins nest outside their window. Tressa worries about the fate of the robins as she observes predator after predator approach. Over a traditional Easter craft, Gran reveals to her the story of a small robin who saw Jesus struggling and soared to help him. This Easter tale reminds Christians everywhere how much Jesus sacrificed for us and how much he loves us. The Legend of the Easter Robin will captivate and teach your child about compassion and faith.Age Range: 4-8 yearsHardcover; 32 pages

Similar to my family’s tradition of the arrival of the Chickadees, this book tells the story of a little girl, Tressa and her Gran as they witness the miracle of life and God’s ultimate love. As a they prepare for the upcoming Easter season with the old Pennsylvania Dutch Easter tradition of dying eggs, Tressa watches a robin struggle to bring about new life. This book will change the way you look at a robin. Rather than signifying the start of spring, you will remember how much Christ sacrificed to pay for our sins. The robins nest will remind you of the thorny crown he wore on his head, the robin’s red breast will remind us of Christ’s pain and the blue eggs will remind us of the new life we have in Christ.
