When the temperature begins to plummet, adding an extra layer to fight the chilly weather is always the perfect answer. Each year, I stumble around finding a great sweater. The warm ones are too bulky and make me feel like a marshmallow. Thin ones are slimming, but they don’t add the warmth my chilly bones are desperately craving. Finding the perfect sweater can be tricky, frustrating and may lead you to borrowing your significant others sweater out of desperation. Variety is the spice of life and each sweater you buy doesn’t have to be exactly the same in order for it to complement your figure. Here are a few key features in mind when you are shopping for a sweater.
How to find a Fabulous Sweater:
Body Shape: When shopping for any article of clothing it is very important to know your own body shape. It doesn’t matter if you are pear shaped, pencil thin, or have large breasts, what does matter is knowing how to flatter the good parts while hiding the bad. Take necklines for example: A V neckline helps to minimize larger breast, while a boatneck enlarges narrow shoulders.
Length: Sweaters come in many different lengths from crew cuts to waist height to long. Choosing the right length depends on where on the where on your body you wish to draw attention to. The most flattering portion of your body should be where the sweater ends. If you feel you are hippy, then your sweater shouldn’t end at your waist drawing attention to it. Choosing something knee length, will help create a longer leaner look. If you are really tall, choosing a short sweater will help minimize your height. If you are unsure about where your sweater should end, trying using an asymmetrical sweater that creates haphazard lines rather then defined ones.
Materials: The heavier the fabric, the warm it will be BUT the more bulky it will be! Finding sweaters that are thin and warm can be tricky. Look for fabrics like cashmere, a flat knit wool and cotton to create a more flattering look.
Details: The details on an outfit are used as a guide for the eye. When choosing an item, look for embellishments that draw the eye away from unflattering areas. The play of different patterns and colours together can create an interesting visual masterpiece while changing the perception of your body. (i.e. Sweaters with belted waist lines tends to emphasize an hour glass shape, ruffles on your chest minimize the broadness of your shoulders.)

I love this sweater! It is warm, comfortable and flattering. I love that I can pair it with jeans for a hike with my kids or dress it up with a pair of black pants for a holiday function. The quality is outstanding. The buttons are secure, every stitch is perfect and there isn’t a thread of place. Even after washing it several times, it still maintains its glamorous shape and style. I get complimented by everyone who see it and I’m very proud to say its CANADIAN made!
