When I see a picture of a tent pitched in the middle of serene meadow, surround by forest and a breath taking lake, I shudder. Where you see nature, beauty and relaxing setting, I see bugs, dirt and more dirt. My friends (and DH) make fun of dirt phobia. I hate sand, mud and anything that leaves you feeling icky. I avoid the beach, hikes in the woods and pretty much anything that requires being away from running water, my vacuum and a shower.
Being a Mom of three and wife to man who loves to camp, every once in a while, I have to take one for the team, suck up my germaphobia and spend a few days camping with my kids. That being said, my neurotic need to be clean doesn’t take a vacation, rather I plan around it and bring things to help keep my family mess free while camping!
How to avoid the 4 messy parts of camping:
1. Beach – One of my children’s favourite things to do while camping is play in the sand. Building sandcastles, collecting rocks and digging trenches in the sand can keep them occupied for hours. My problem lies when these sand monsters are ready to return to the campsite. My trick: Baby powder! Not only does it get the sand off quickly and efficiently, but it also makes your kids smell great after a long day sweating in the sun.
2. Lake Swimming – Swimming in the lake can be tons of fun! Seaweed brushing up against your leg, sand between your toes and the o’de fish smell that is ever so pleasant. OK, so I’m not a big fan of this either, but having a daughter who looks up to me for guidance, I am willing to do it from time to time. When I get out, my hair is smelly, tangled mess. One of my favourite products to bring camping is Kandoo detangler! Not only is it great for everyday taming of wild hair, but it is awesome at removing the knots (and smell) after a dip in the lake!
3. Cleaning up after campfire snacks – One of my favourite parts of camping is sitting around the campfire with my family, while the stars light the night sky. A campfire is not complete unless you are roasting marshmallows and creating S’mores. Little hands and S’mores is a recipe for disaster. Sticky, messy hands are easily taken care of with Kandoo Hand soap. The gentle formula, brightly coloured foam and natural moisturizers make clean up quick and easy, allowing you to return to the campfire of more camping fun!
4. Outhouse – Whether you are at a provincial park with a main washing station (equipped with showers and flushing toilets) or in a remote area with outhouse, being prepared with kandoo wipes is essential. Kandoo Flushable wipes clean up to 30% better than toiled paper. Moistened with lotion and backed with germ fighting, it empowers your little one to be clean down under.
Staying clean while camping takes the right products and a little bit of planning,
but you KANDOO it!
