Do you remember your first taste of coffee? Was it with a best friend at a coffee shop? On a first date with the love of your life? With your Grandma over freshly baked cookies? Or perhaps sneaking the day old stuff in your parents coffee carat? My first official memory of coffee is in my Grandmother’s kitchen. She was baking pies and I was playing with the left over dough. My grandfather asked for his morning cup of coffee and I had the brilliant idea to add it to my dough. Needless to say my first experience with coffee (Baked pie dough soaked in coffee) was not the greatest, but since my tastes have matured.
In high school, I finally had my first enjoyable cup of coffee. A local coffee shop, Just Desserts, opened and my best friend and I would get all dolled up and sip on lattes and specialties coffees while talking about boys, crushes and homework. I remember the sounds of the grinders crushing the beans, the smell of fresh, rich coffee in the air, and the tastes of a coffee brewed to perfection. It was then I learned the difference from a coffee shop coffee and a really good cup of coffee.
Today, coffee is a staple of my everyday life. With a 5 am wake up call and a job that takes me into the Great Canadian Winters for hours on end, coffee is my best friend. Most of the time, quick trips to the coffee shop or the convenience of K cups at home get me by, but every once in awhile, I crave a really good cup of coffee.
