Having boys means that my world is always in fast forward. Unlike girls who sit and play with dolls quietly for hours on end, boys are always moving, grooving and on the go. That being said, it isn’t surprising that boys love to play with toys that can keep up with their need for speed.
When Dh was little, he and his twin brother were double trouble! Everything was a race or a competition. One of their favourite toys were their remote control cars. They would race them up and down the street trying out new tricks and techniques. The stranger the technique the better. Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do with a remote control car due to the limitations of the body structure. Without adding external items such as ramps, jumps and bridges. You were limited to forward, reverse and round and round.
I wasn’t surprised when my DSs fell in love with remote cars. He got his first remote control car for Chirstmas a few years ago. He loved that it lit up and could race against his brother’s car. This car was designed to flip when it hit the wall. Great in theory, unless you are the mother watching her walls take a beating with each flip of the car.
There has to be a better solution…
A total adrenaline junkie that rockets around at floor-warpiug speeds. Ollie loves to spin, flip and do all kinds of crazy tricks. And thanks to Ollie’s tubular design, he can tumble over and keep on rollin’. Turn on a time with grip tires or make them off to drift like a street racer. You can rock out until Ollie wears you out.

This Christmas, satisfy your boys need for speed (and save your walls!) with the Ollie from Orbotix! The Ollie is a remote-controlled device that is controlled by an innovative app. Ollie is designed in the same way as a remote control car, but instead of the common car shape, it is more minimalist design allowing it to perform a broader range of tricks. Controlled by an iOS or Android app and function through Bluetooth technology, this toy can twist, turn and race up to thirty meters!
The Ollie was very simple to set up! Simply charge the Ollie using the provided USB cord. While your device is charging, you can download and install the app. Using the app is as simple as using a joystick or a trackpad. Depending on which way you swipe the screen on your device will determine the movement you make. Mastering the basic movements is half the fun! Since Ollie is an app there is the possibility of future expansions and new skills to master!
My boys love playing with their Ollie. From the flashing lights to the amazing grips of the rubber tires, the trick opportunities are endless. The only problem is the can’t decide if it’s a video game or a toy! If you have an adrenaline junky on your Christmas shopping list, I highly recommend the Ollie for hours and hours of fun!
