As I flip the calendar today, I realize that we are moving from the “back to school” season to Halloween. Ghosts, Ghouls and Pumpkins begin to appear in stores, in front of houses and on TV. Though they are exciting and funny to older children, the Halloween season can be scary for the younger crowd. Having children aged 3, 6, and 8, I have a mix of those brave enough to embrace Halloween’s scariness and those who just find it terrifying. To ensure everyone enjoys the season, I’m always on the search for festive but not too scary. Instead of ghosts and goblins, I found a magic old mansion!

The film tells the story of Thunder, an abandoned young cat who stumbles into a magical old mansion operated by a dazzling array of automatons and gizmos. Owned by a retired magician, the house is occupied by an assortment of his wacky assistants who don’t all welcome the new house guest. But when the magician lands in the hospital and his scheming nephew puts the mansion up for sale, our young hero and his new friends join forces to save their magical home. Filled with laughter and adventure, Thunder and The House of Magic is a wonderful tale that you and your little ones will love.
The moment this DVD arrived the kids popped in the DVD player and have been watching. It is a heart warming story that appeals to kids of all ages. My boys loved that it was full of action, my DD3 loved the adorable animal voices and Mommy loved that this movie taught the kids the important lesson of overcoming ones differences and work together for a common cause. TThe animation was very inviting and held the kids attention. In true animation fashion, the plot followed the predictable story line of good and bad times followed by a happy ending. It has the feel of an old favourite bedtime story, that you don’t mind watching over and over again!
