Have you ever been to a blogging conference? I remember when I attended my first conference. I thought pack a suitcase, book a hotel and just show up! Boy was I wrong. A blogging conference is a cross between a job interview and a family reunion. You are there to catch up with old friends and make new ones through networking and social events, but it is also a chance for you show the world who you are! A chance to present yourself and your blog to potential brand connections. Here are my three recommendations for preparing for a blog conference:
1. Polish my look – When I attend a blogging conference I representing my blog, my brand and myself. I want people to respect me and take my work serious. To do so, I must present myself in a professional way. Normally, I sit all alone in front of my computer wearing my Pjs and my hair pulled back. I’m sure if potential brands saw me that way, they would run for the hills. This is definitely how I want to present myself at conference. A few weeks before the conference, I begin polishing my look. I choose the outfits that best represent my style in a professional manner (see What to wear to a Blogging Conference), I visit my hairstylist to fix my hair, and I treat myself to a much need manicure and pedicure. A blogging conference is a chance to catch up with old friends, meet new ones and connect with brands I hope to work with.
2. Get my Social Media Accounts in Order – Being a blogger means being connected all the time. From the moment the conference begins to the very last speaker, I am following people on tweeter, updating Facebook statuses, and posting pictures on Instagram. I am sharing what I learn, following new friends and becoming an active participant in the conference. Before the conference, I ensure that my accounts are up to date, that I am following key players (i.e. the conference, keynote speakers, brands, etc) and my business cards are correct.
3. Stock up on Gluten Free snacks – Having celiac disease, I have to be very careful about what I eat. Although many conferences prepare in advance for food allergies, it might not always be available. Many times the main courses will provide a gluten free option, but snack times are done without. To make sure that I don’t go hungry during a conference, I am always on the hunt for delicious snacks that I can store in purse in case I get hungry.
When I’m stuck in a situation where a gluten free option isn’t available, I turn to Glutino for help! I absolutely love their gluten free Breakfast Bars. With a cereal coating outside and a fruit burst in the middle, this snack will satisfy your hunger pains any time of the day!
However, when the conference begins to wrap up and the after parties begin, I don’t want to be left snack-less again. This time I turn to Glutino pretzel chips. Pile on the cheese, smear on the paté, or shovel up the dip – no matter how you stack it, these are flat-out great pretzel chips. I’m still not sure if they are more pretzel or more chip, but whatever they are they are party favourite for sure!
