Do you enjoy change? Or are you one of those people who thrive on consistency and familiarity? A co-worker recently asked if I was eating the same thing for breakfast for the 10th day in a row. It was a smoothie. Same juice and fruit combination, same protein shot and same container. I didn’t consciously decide on having the same thing everyday, but it was easy and I enjoyed it so why change? After reviewing my meal choices for the past week, I am shocked to find out, that I do this constantly. I reach for the same snacks at the same of the time of day and don’t stray unless a situation or circumstance interrupts me. I guess I am one of those people who finds a product that I LOVE and stick with it until someone forces me to try something new!
This is the number one reason I love Healthy Shoppers! Twice a year, The Healthy Shopper dives into the world of natural and organic products and comes up with the seasons latest and greatest ones.
Who is the Healthy Shopper?
The Healthy Shopper began in 1999 as a coupon source for natural and organic products in Canada. The co-founders, Andrea Donsky and Randy Boyer, were trying to live a healthier lifestyle on natural and organic products but found the cost was astronomical. As a solution, they created a coupon source that would allow Canadians to live this healthy lifestyle while saving money. In 2007, they added their money savings Canadian E-coupons to their website and rose to the #1 Coupon source for natural and organic products in CANADA. Their coupon books introduces people to new products and enable them to try things they would never have tried before using their coupon book. Many times, these introductions turn in to staples in a family’s household.
They are more then just coupons! The Healthy Shopper Website includes:
- Product reviews
- Health and Wellness information
- Recipes the whole family will love
- Food and Nutritional information to guide better eating choices
- A Service Directory to point out qualified service providers
- A Month e-newsletter
- and of course FREE E-Coupons!
The Healthy Shopper Picks for Fall 2014:
- Olympic Dairy (milk, cream cheese, sour cream and yogurt)
Olympic dairy is a Canadian farm based company that has been manufacturing natural and organic dairy products for the last 32 years. Products such as yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, milk and soy-based products round out the delicious, organic line that they specialize in. They are committed to value, quality and innovation and it shows in their food. This season we tested their new Chai yogurt. It is a fantastic probiotic yogurt. Being high in protein and fibre, its a great addition to your morning smoothie or as a snack on its own!
- Made good (granola bars, minis)
Made good foods is a family business that began as a love affair with healthy eating. The family enjoyed the nutritional benefits and want to share it with the world. They began creating health snacks that were rich in nutrients and minimally processed, but taste great too. All of their products contain one serving of vegetables, school safe (i.e. peanut free) and taste so amazing you won’t believe they are healthy for you! They are available in both granola bars and mini bites which are perfect for school lunches, the ride home on the bus, or after sporting activities. Available in chocolate banana, apple cinnamon, strawberry and mixed berry, you are bound to find one you love!
- Artisan Flour
- Sugar Cookie mix
I am a huge fan of Pamela’s products. Being gluten free, it’s hard to find a gluten free flour base that works the same way as normal flour in your favourite recipes. Pamela’s products have been making gluten free foods taste great for 26 years and they keep getting better. This month, I had the opportunity to review their artisan flour (which I’m very familiar with!) and their Sugar Cookie Mix. I love that Pamela’s product recognize that gluten free people are just as busy as non gluten free people and that we crave ready to make products too!
- Fra Diavolo Spicy
- Tomato & Basil
- Vodka Cream
- Tomato with roasted garlic
Spaghetti is a staple in our household. It is eaten at least once a week. From experience, I know that the best spaghetti sauce is a homemade one. Unfortunately, being a busy mom of three that isn’t always possible. As a result, I look for a sauce that is organic, fat free and doesn’t contain high fructose syrup. One of my favourite sauces is from Simply Natural. Not only do they come in amazing flavours like Fra Diavolo, Tomato & Basil, and Vodka Cream, but all of the in these pasta sauces are ingredients that could be found in my kitchen!
We all know that garlic keeps away vampires, but did you know helps to keep the common cold away too? Allimax has discovered what the active component of garlic is and harnessed it through a complex extraction process, creating a convenient one a day capsule. This natural antibiotic helps to prevent colds and flues, while boosting your over all immune system.
- Hyland’s Tiny Cold Tablets
- Hyland’s Cough Syrup
Hyland’s Inc is not a new product for our family. When I learned that traditional medicine couldn’t be used for the common cold for children under the age of 2, I began searching for an alternative. Hyland’s Inc develops high quality natural homeopathic medicine for families at every stage of life.
To put these products to the ultimate test, I used them in this week’s Food Friday recipe!
