There is something about this time of year that puts me in the crafting spirit! I don’t know if it is the beautiful red, orange, and yellow colours that are displayed on the trees outside my window or the cooler temperatures that keep us inside looking for things to do, but whatever it is I always come up with these ‘great’ ideas for a new craft to do with my kids.
This year, I was walking through the craft store looking for items for another project, when I stumbled across some beautiful felt pieces in every colour of the rainbow. I thought it would be fun to create a centerpiece to hold flowers, cutlery, or treats in the shape of a turkey. To make it more personal, the kids and I added things that we were thankful for in our lives, on each tail feather.
– 7 feathers
-1 Can (washed and preferably without sharp edges. I used on that had a d-ring pull off lid!)
-1 Piece of each colour felt (red, orange, brown)
– 2 googlie eyes
-1 orange pipe cleaner
Step 1: Cut the brown felt to fit the can. Glue the edges and roll can along felt until completely covered.
Step 2: Cut out a red circle for the tummy, 2 wings out of brown, and an orange triangle for the beak.
Step 3: Glue the tummy, beak and googlie eyes in place.
Step 4: Using the stickers, spell out the words you are thankful for.
Step 5: Attach the feathers to the back of the bird.
Step 6: Fill with beautiful flowers and share the things you are thankful for with the world!
