When I was a kid, cleaning meant using the toughest chemicals possible to get rid of dirt and grime. The idea of ‘industrial strength’ makes us think that our homes will be cleaner and the job will completed faster or cheaper or both. As time has passed, I have learned that this is not always the best way. The truth is that many of the ingredients in the common household cleaning products that we have grown to trust are harmful to our health. As consumers why would we want such products around us, our families or our pets? Although the surface you are cleaning with these chemicals may appear clean, they damage and most consumers aren’t aware of the hidden dangers hidden in popular cleaning products It wasn’t until I had children that I realized how harmful this can actually be.
My first son, DS8, put EVERYTHING in his mouth. He sucked on toys, tables, crib rails, wash clothes, etc. You name it, it went in his mouth. Every time he put something in his mouth I would cringe at the dirt and grime he was sucking on. Being my first, I was over protective and overzealous. When he had a cold, I would wash each of toy with disinfectant to ensure the virus was killed. The next time he put something in his mouth, it dawned on me that he was now sucking on the disinfectant! As result, I decided to reexamine the cleaning products I as using around my kids to ensure that they were not being subjected to anything harmful.

My immediate reaction was there is no way the tiny amount provided for a single wash would actually get my clothing cleaning. After several washes, I noticed that indeed my clothing appeared cleaner, brighter and odour free. It was nice to know that a little bit of detergent goes a long way. When I had a stain, I simply pre treated it with the stain remover as the washer was filling up then threw it in with the rest of the load. 9 times out of 10, the stain was gone by the first try!

Our kitchen is the most important room in our house. Not only is it the central hub of our house, but it is the room most used and abused. It is this room that I worry about germs, grime and dirt the most. When I tried out the All purpose cleaner, I was pleased to find it didn’t leave a film on my stainless steel surfaces. The absences of a harsh fume was very beneficial as well. Spray, wipe and I was satisfied that my kitchen was clean.

Having 3 kids, I am no stranger to wipes! Now that my children are older, we don’t use wipes for diaper changes, but use them on the go to clean up sticky messes. I was very impressed with the Seventh Generation wipes. They are durable and do not rip when met with tough messes, they dispense easily and are not irritable to my children’s sensitive skin.
