My love for human biology began when I tore my ACL riding on the back of four-wheeler. It was a one seater, so technically I shouldn’t have been on there. It was a 2 minute ride and my foot got caught in the tread of the wheel and pulled me off. After that I was sent for surgery and too many months of physio. Although this is not the ideal scenario to find a true love, I fell in love with the mechanics of the human body. Since then my love has blossomed into a Kinesiology degree and the need to keep my family healthy and happy.
Unfortunately, that is easier said then done. My kids are not athletes. To get them outside for a bike ride or to play tag is like pulling teeth. Knowing the importance of physical activity, I’m always looking for fun and innovative ways to get the kids up and moving.
Last Saturday, September 6th, was national #FitMadeFun Day hosted by Leap Frog. The idea behind this special celebration is to encourages kids and their families to jump into motion and experience the fun of an active and healthy lifestyle. To celebrate the launch of their new LeapBand, LeapFrog invited families all across the country to join the fun by hosting a #FitMadeFun Party at home.
It was so much fun planning my #FitMadeFun Party! I invited several close friends and their children to an energy packed the afternoon at a local farm. We were supplied with:
- Two LeapBands
- LeapBand is the cool wearable activity tracker that encourages kids to get active with customizable virtual pet pals. LeapBand tracks kids’ every movement and suggests fun active challenges – and the more they move, the more points they earn to unlock virtual rewards for their pets and get to new levels!
- CLIF Kid Zbar Protein samples for your guests
- Clif Kid Zbar Protein is a delicious whole grain protein snack made with nutritious building blocks for kids’ growing bodies, so kids can keep zipping and zooming along!
- Information on Fit Made Fun Day, themed activities and recipes to share with our friends.
The day was a huge success! We had beautiful weather, a wide open space to run around in, and some farm animals to cheer us on! The kids came bound with energy and were raring to go!
There were three main challenges at our party: The hill climb, the obstacle course and the swing weave. The kids took turns using the Leap Band to track their progress and earn new treats for their virtual pets. The group ranged from age 2-9 and the kids each displayed different levels athletic ability and competitiveness. Even though they were diverse, they all had a fun time and were beat by the end of the party.
Once the fitness challenges were done, it was time for refueling at the snack bar. The kids were super exited to try ClifKid bars. There was only one problem! The mint chocolate ones disappeared very fast (They were my favourite too!).
My kids had a great time at the party and continued to use the Leap Bands afterwards. I love to see them hop through the house like frogs or doing jumping jacks to earn their pet a new reward. What they see is a digital toy, I see as fitness motivator!
Did you part take in #FitMadeFun day?? If not, how do you get your kids up and active?
