Have you ever had a dream that you have held on since childhood? One that you couldn’t let go of? One that bubbled to the surface of your consciousness time and time again? This is my story of a dream come true.
Summer television on cable is very boring. Reruns, reality shows and baseball are basically your choices. Luckily, my family has Netflix! With Netflix, we were able to catch up on our favourite shows and find new ones to become addicted to. My summer series of choice was Heartland. It was one of the “Netflix recommended” Options. I had never heard of this show before, but loved the idea of a heartwarming drama that included horses, country living, and family values (having 7 seasons didn’t hurt either!).
As I dove into this series, I began to think of my first time on horse. It was Clydesdale that use to travel through our subdivision offering photos. I was about 4 at the time and couldn’t wait to sit on this horse. However, as my turn approached, fear set in and I had to have my Daddy stand beside me.
My fear of horses didn’t last too long. I remember summers spent at the cottage and our annual horse back riding adventure. I waited all year for that day. I promised myself that one day I would take lesson and really learn how to ride.
As the years passed, pregnancies, work and family demands made my dream fade further and further away from reality. Then I began Heartland on Netflix. Episode after episode, I watched Amy ride, train and teach people to ride horses. On a whim, after watching an episode, I posted on Facebook if anyone knew of a local place that offered Horse back riding lessons. With in 5 minutes, a friend told me of an amazing opportunity that was 10 minutes away from my house.
