Its hard to believe that summer is over and September is here! I had dreams of taking my kids camping, on trips and exciting adventures, but unfortunately due to jobs, vacation time and money that wasn’t possible. Still determined to give my children an unforgettable summer, we decided to the best of what we have and hosted a stay at home vacation ~ A Staycation!
A staycation is vacation from work where you explore the city you live in. It is an amazing opportunity to get to know the culture, historical sites and attractions located near to where you live. Basically you have the luxury of sleeping in your own bed, with out the stress of listening to ‘are we there yet?’, packing for 5 and worrying about the costs of accommodations and travel. The best part is it gives you an opportunity to visit places in your town that you didn’t know existed or that you have been meaning to get to but never made time for.
In the Toronto area, we are blessed with many adventurous and excitement opportunities to see and experience. All it takes is a little research and planning and you can have a memorable family holiday. The first places I started my research was the CAA website. Being a #CAAReward Member, I have access to amazing savings and discounts of travel, accommodations, dining and more! Here are 5 of the amazing Toronto attractions that my family visited on our Stayvacation:
One of our favourite family events this summer was attending the Rock exhibit at the Ontario Science Center. Learning how music is created, reliving memories of music memorabilia from decades past and dabbling in a few tunes of our own, created memories to last a lifetime. The Ontario Science Center is located just on the border of Toronto. With thousands of interactive and passive exhibits, you can learn about everything from physics to anatomy to astronomy all under one roof. As a #CAARewards Members we saved 10% on general admission when we pre-purchase our tickets in store or online.
Go WILD! My DS6’s favourite animal is a Zebra. He loves the unique stripe pattern that varies from animal to animal and loves watching the graze and run. To his delight, we visited the African Lion Safari this summer and gave him an up close and personal look at his favourite animal in a natural environment. The African Lion Safari is an unique way to view animals in their natural environment. Guests tour the 7 game reserves via tour bus or in their own cars where animals roam free in contained areas. There is nothing more exciting then having a monkey jump on your car or a tiger cross your path! As a #CAAReward Member you can save 10% on regular priced admission.
If you are looking for a dinner and show that the entire family will enjoy, I highly recommend Medieval Times. A blast from the past, this experience allows you to indulge in medieval buffet while watching knight jostle for the kings affection. From horse stunt riders to comedic routines to flowers for the ladies, the meal and celebration is outstanding. As a #CAAReward Member, you can save and earn 2.2% in CAA dollars when you pre-purchase your tickets online.
This summer we had A LOT of rain. When my family had a day off together, we weren’t about to let a bit of rain stop us! Instead we went to our local Cineplex for a family, fun day at the movies! This summer we indulged in sequel films including Planes 2 and How to Train your Dragon. Going to the movies with 5 family member can get pretty expensive. To save money and time, we used of #CAAReward Membership and pre-purchased tickets online to save up to 24%!
5. Toronto ZOO
The Toronto Zoo is one of my family’s favourite places to explore. With over 700 acres of interactive wild life divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Tundra Trek, Australasia, Eurasia, and the Canadian Domain, its a must visit place for every animal lover. There is so much to see and do! A typical day for my family includes walking from exhibit to exhibit, learning about animals from all over the world and enjoying a picnic lunch in one of their many picnic facilities. Over 5000 animal species, the Kids Zoo, Waterside Theatre, and Splash Island, there is fun for everyone! The best part is CAA members save 10% on regular priced admission when they show your CAA card at the gate.
As you can see, my family had an amazing staycation. Not only did we get to check out some of Toronto’s must see attractions, but thanks to #CAARewards we saved a lot of money too. CAA is more then just great roadside assistance, it is a reward program that offers many savings and discounts on stores and attractions that you already use!
