Learning to how to tell time is one of the greatest milestones in a child’s life. It provides them with a new found freedom that allows them to predict and understand schedules. Once your child grasps these terms your life will be so much easier. Your child will begin to learn responsibility (i.e. when they need to leave for school) and patience (i.e. when you say five minutes until dinner). Once they grasp the concept of time, the only downside for parents is that 5 minutes really means five minutes!
Many children become curious about time around the time they enter into kindergarten. Whether its the rigid schedules they are introduced to or the dramatic movement from one activity to the next or the new found knowledge of numbers, Kindergarten age seems to be the optimal age to start familiarizing your child with this concept.
@VTechToys has come out with a new revolutionary product that makes learning to tell time fun! The Kidizoom Smartwatch is a rubberized plastic watch that is built to withstand the traumas of everyday childhood. A Must have Smart watch!
My kids have been obsessed with the idea of a Smartwatch since my Dad got one last Christmas. They love that they can tell the time and take photos without taking his phone out of his pocket. The first time we experienced this product was at the Walmart Toy Testing event. It was love at first sight for my DD2. Although, the product wasn’t recommended for her age ( recommended for children 4+), she was easily able to understand the functions, work the camera and access the games. It was only when we had the opportunity to review the watch at home, that we realized its full value.
The time telling app was a great addition to watch. It provided the kids with the ability to decipher the current time and learn what the same time looks like as both digital and analog. With over 50 different clock faces to choose from, it was easy to customize the watch to suit my child’s personality.
The camera option on the smartwatch was my children’s favourite part! They loved having the ability to take a picture any time, any where! We took the watch with us on an adventure to the Canadian War Plane museum and the kids took some great shots using the watch! I really enjoyed the creative ways that the boys dressed up their photos with the photo effects! It was a great touch!
For the love of the Game!
The games were a great addition to the smart watch! We have downloaded three games on the watch; Super detective, rotating puzzle and finger dancing. These games are simple to play, but a great way to entertain kids while standing in line or waiting in a traffic jam. DD2 loved the detective game and grasped the concept very quickly!
Although, we would highly recommend this device to any family with children, I did have a few minor problems with this product. The first is the battery. Like every other electronic device available on the market, the battery life never seems to be long enough. Some days, the battery would last all day and others it would die after an hour. The other problem is with the power switch. The power switch is a tiny switch on the back of the watch. It is only accessible if the watch is removed and is very difficult to operate (I had to use my nail).
If you are looking for a fun and electronic way to teach your children about time, I highly recommend the @VtechToy’s Kidizoom Smartwatch!
