Hair, make-up and accessories are not my strong point. I know how to do a basic pony tail, I love shirts that either come with with necklaces or have one built in and if the make-up does’t come with instructions, I’m hopeless. Its not that I don’t like get all decked out in a pretty dress, with my hair done and my make up perfect, I just don’t get the opportunity to do so. Give me a pair of yoga pants, a t-shirts and a pair of comfortable running shoes and I’m happy!
DD2, on the other hand, is the complete opposite to me! She loves wearing dresses, skirts and the colour pink! She loves having her hair done and she always tries to accessorize her outfit with necklaces, purse, pearls or sunglasses. One of her favourite things to do is have her nails done. When she’s having a bad day, falls down and hurts her knee, or needs a pick me up when she is bored, a fresh layer of nail polish always cheers her up!
Since she is only two and constantly sucks on her fingers, I worry about the toxic ingredients that are commonly found in nail polishes. Ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phalate (DBP) (the ‘Toxic Trio’!) that are commonly found in nail polishes, can cause problems from skin and eye irritations to reproductive problems and birth defects. Some studies even show that when a nail polish is labeled toxic free, that isn’t always the case. From now on, I shy away from dollar store and cheap nail polishes, and read the ingredients in all of my nail polishes before applying them to DD2’s delicate hands
One of our new favourite polishes is SunCoat Girl. SunCoat Girl is a kids polish line that is water-based, odourless, and 100% chemical solvent free. The best part is there is no need for nail polish remover! If your daughter is as indecisive as mine, changing the colour is as simple as peeling it off! Available in 16 hot and trendy colours, there is a shade for every occasion and every outfit!
DD2 had the opportunity to review four different SunCoat Girl nail polishes. It was love at first sight! We barely had time to unpack them, before she was demanding that they be applied. The hardest part was deciding which colour to wear! I love that the colours when on light and provide a beautiful gleam when finished. The nail polishes went on smooth and dried really quickly. This is very important if you have an active 2 year old who can’t sit still! DD2 felt grown up and loved that she had her own line of nail polishes. The only problem with this nail polish is it only lasted one day on her hand and 4 days on her toes. We have adapted accordingly and instead of weekly mommy-daughter manicure sessions, we have them every few days!
