My favourite time of day is story time. The kids are cleaned up from the messy adventure of the day, wearing fresh jammies with sparkling white teeth. We all climb into Mom and Dad’s bed and snuggle under the covers. Its a time to enjoy each others company without the distraction of electronics, television or other toys. We use this time to practice our reading skills, verbal skills and a chance to let our imaginations run wild!
Over the years, we have added many different books to our personal library. This month, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to review some beautiful board books from Raincoast Book. Raincoast books is a Canadian book distribution company that was established in 1979. Today, they offer over 20,000 new titles to over 2500 bookstores and other specialty retailers across Canada. These magnificent books can be purchased through retailers such as Kidsbooks.ca, Indigo.ca and Amazon.ca.
You Are My Baby
Age up to 4 10 pages
“Two books in one! Turn the pages of the little book nestled inside the bigger book to match the baby animals to their parents. La-la-chirp! Buzz-buzz! Swish! Splash! Perfect for learning and playtime fun.”
The ‘You are my baby’ collection contains three different books; Ocean, Garden and Farm. Each book contains a smaller inner book that allows you to match up the baby animals with their Mommies. What I love about these stories is that once the story is over, the fun doesn’t stop. From matching games to who is the baby, my DD2 and I spend hours flipping through these board books. The pictures are bright and beautiful and is wound together with a collage of different patterns. It add real texture and dimension to the pictures. With a solid board foundation, DD2 can get excited without the chance of her ripping a page by accident.
Age 0 to 3 20pages
“Peek-a mew? Peek-a ‘roo? Peek-a zoo! In this hilarious follow-up to the bestselling board book Peek-a Who, Nina Laden turns her playful eye (and ear) to the animal world. Read the clue . . . guess the animal . . . giggle wildly . . . and repeat!”
This fun book provided a non stop guessing game. From the covers, brilliant blue eyes peeking through a tiger coat to the joey peeking up from a nest, your child will have fun guessing what zoo animal comes next. My DD2’s favourite page was the “Don’t feed the animals” Where the beautiful brown eyes staring back at her were her own!
A Tree for all Seasons
Ages 0-3 8pages
“The youngest of readers will appreciate this gorgeous tree-shaped board book that explains the yearly cycle of seasons in simple terms with a tree that goes from blossoming in the springtime to shedding its leaves in the fall”
This uniquely shaped book made moving through the seasons a breeze! Each page depicted specific characteristics to the season it represented. Each page provide a fun lift-the-flip surprise of a creature hiding in the treat. DD2 loved finding the hidden creatures and Mommy liked how we could use this book to discuss the weather and what we hope to see soon!
Daddy Wrong Legs
“Mix and match a set of legs with a body to create different, cute and hilarious sets of “Daddy Wrong Legs!”
This was by far DD2’s favourite book in the collection. The book is divided in top and bottom and you can mix and match different body parts to create new and interesting creatures. DD2 would mix up body parts and then laugh out loud saying “Daddy wrong legs!!”
Next time you are looking for snuggles with your little one, grab one of these amazing books and have a few giggles!
