My Mother has always played a huge roll in my life. Whether it was kissing a boo boo when I was little, supporting me through a devastating break up as teenager or giving me parenting advice as Mom, she has always been by my side to lend her love, support and understanding. It wasn’t until the birth of my first son that I realized how much I needed her.
Only after 48 hours of labour, 3 and half hours of pushing and the threat of the vacuum, did my first son (and my Mom’s first grandchild!) finally make his entrance into the world. He was beautiful and healthy, what more could a mother ask for? As one midwife whisked him a way to do his newborn assessment, everyone in my birthing room when with him, except for my mother. She whispered congratulations in my ear and told me how proud she was of me. After delivering the placenta, the midwifes became worried. I was hemorrhaging and they were having trouble stopping the bleeding. I know my mom was dying to see and hold her grandson, but instead she stood by me, repeating words of encouragement in my ear. Seeing the worried looks on the midwives faces, I was sure I was going to die. My Mom remained strong and positive and kept me calm in the emergency situation. After several tense minutes, the bleeding was controlled and my mother was sure I was safe did she finally leave my side to hold her grandson for the first time.
When Mother’s day rolls around, I think of how much my mom supported me through that terrifying moment and realize the how deep a love mother’s love is. No matter if you are a newborn, 18 years or 34 years old, a Mother’s job is never done. They think about you, worry about you and try to protect you day in and day out. From the moment your child is conceived, motherhood is a 24/7 job for the rest of your life! This year instead of they typical cards and flowers for mother’s day, I’m going to give my Mom a CAA Membership card. When you think of CAA, you normally think of roadside assistance, but what many people don’t know is it is so much more! Not only will the CAA Membership card takes care of your Mom in her time of need, but it will spoil her with exclusive savings to some of her favorite retailers, restaurants and attractions. What Mom wouldn’t want to save 15% off of new pair of summer sandals from Payless Shoes or 40% off of new sunglasses at LensCrafters? In the spirit of Mother’s Day, many CAA rewards shops have added additional savings to celebrate all things MOM. How does 25% off at Roots or 20% off Naturalizer Handbags? 48 hours of labor??? WOW! You go momma!
What a great reminder as mother’s day is approaching!
This is so sweet! A CAA membership card looks awesome!
I would love to take my mom on a shopping spree! She has done so much for me and I’d love to give back to her!
Aww. Nice post. I love your momma. All the best to you, and Happy Mother’s Day to you both. Peace
Awesome giveaway! I want to win this 🙂
I would take my mother out to dinner at East Side Mario’s
1389 UPPER JAMES ST, Hamilton ON
I would totally hand the gift card over to my mother. It would make a perfect mothers day gift. Thank you for the giveaway!
What a wonderful story of your mother! I agree, my mom was a huge help me, both when I was bregnant and when I was giving birth and also when my son was born. Mothers rock! 🙂
Wow, you such are blessed with an amazing mom! I had my mom at my side with two of my births. I was so scared with the first one that I thought it would be best to have her support. If I were to win $500 I would totally have a Mommy and me, plus my three girls, weekend getaway. I would also make sure to include ice cream sundays, too! Happy Mothers Day!!
I would probably use the gift card at Dyson as our vacuum cleaner motor just died. If there was any leftover after that I would use it at Cineplex since we almost never go to a movie. Thanks for the opportunity!
I would take my mom out to East Side Marios 🙂
I would probably spend it at Dyson as I need a new vaccum badly! Why are women always so practical?
This one is easy, I would go to East Side Mario’s.
I would love to win this and take my Mom shopping.
I’m a vaccum-aholic so I totally understand!!!
I would take my Mom shopping if I won.
So many to choose from. Hard to choose one. I may spend a little at each. Roots, Aldo, The Source, Gap
Hands down, East Side Mario’s!!! With the 10% off with your CAA card, it would be like having $550 to spend – which is a lot of dinners I don’t have to cook!
perhaps The Body Shop, Puma or Walmart. What great choices.
I would spend it at either the Peoples estore to replace my husbands stolen wedding band or Foot Locker because as a mom of three children we are always replacing soccer shoes, hockey skates, sticks etc.
Oh No!! That’s sad about your husbands wedding band! Good Luck!
1-800-GOT-JUNK would be helpful with the massive declutter and culling I am doing in my house right now.
O’Brien’s in Saskatoon as I need an oil change and new headlights!
East side marios or footlocker, maybe see an argos game. so many choices!
The Body Shop or Walmart. Awesome choices.
So many choices! I have three teen boys so Footlocker would definitely be on the list and dulux paints as I would love to spruce up my home a bit 🙂
If I was lucky enough to win I’d spend it on my kids at Roots!!
Thanks for sharing your story about giving birth and your supportive mom! I would use the money towards airfare for a weekend trip to New York City with my mom.
Oops! I would use the gift card for a stay at a Westin Hotel in New York City with my mom.
I’d use some at the lego store for my boys and then go for dinner at east side marios!
