What is a blogging Conference?
When I tell people that I’m a blogger, I’m usually met with blank stares and confused looks. When I describe what a blogger is, they begin to understand. When I mention I’m attending a blogging conference they are blown away. This is what a blogging conference means to me.
-It is a learning experience to grow as a writer and a business women
-It is a chance to network with other bloggers and brands
-It is an opportunity to connect with brands on a 1 on 1 level
-It is a chance to form personal connects IRL with online friends.
Last weekend, I had the privilege to be an ambassador for the first annual #BConnected conference in Ottawa, Ontario. It was Canada’s first social media and networking conference targeting Mom and Dad Bloggers. It was an opportunity to connect with family oriented brand and industry leaders, to learn tips and tricks to take our blog and social media relationships to the next level, and a chance to mingle with like minded bloggers. Working behind the scenes, I knew it was going to be an amazing conference, but what I didn’t know was how powerful the information presented would be.
The #BConnected Venue
The conference was held at National Art Center in downtown Ottawa. It was conveniently located in the heart of the city with many hotel options within walking distance. The conference center itself was in a beautiful, spacious room with a ton of natural light. Food and washrooms were only steps away allowing you the opportunity to refresh or relieve yourself without missing to much of the conference or getting lost. The brand room was attached to the presentation room, allowing you to easily slip between venues and allowing you to be aware when new sessions were beginning. It was the perfect set up for learning, networking and relaxing.
The #BConnected Speakers
I can’t rave enough about the speakers. One of my favourite speakers was Dino Dogan, the founder of Triberr. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to get to know Dino on a personal level at a small dinner with several other bloggers on the Friday night. He was knowledgeable, full of passion and very entertaining. He had great ideas for taking your blog to the next level and taught us many useful techniques for improving relationships with brand IRL and on social media. From photography skills (Sober Julie) to how to use WordPress (Richard Martin) to how to engage and form meaningful relationships with brands (Lisa Pedersen), there was something there for everyone.
One thing I didn’t expect for the conference was the draw on my heart string. Listening to Stu Schwartz talk about how social media lead to his #NoMoreBullies campaign or watching JC’s lessons come to life through animation, brought to surface emotions and feelings that I had long forgotten. It reminded us all of the power of social media.
The #BConnected Brands
One of my favourite parts about attending conference is meeting the face behind the brand. In a small venue, like the #BConnected conference, there was more opportunities to get noticed and impress a brand. You were able to stand and have meaningful conversations with the brands without a hundred other people vying for there time as well. The brands were knowledgeable and super friendly, making the opportunity to form relationships relaxing and easy. I loved that not only did the brands represent themselves in the networking room, but they also provide meaningful presentations and mingled with us during social events! I was super excited to connect with Oasis as I learned about a sister company who sells a GF pasta sauce that I had never heard of! Amazing juice and gluten free option, I was in heaven!
Lyne Proulx and the entire #BConnected team worked their butts off this past year and their efforts shone through in this success of this conference. Not only was it an amazing conference, but if you didn’t know any better you would have thought this conference had been running for years. It was smooth, organized and had no noticeable glitches. Great job Lyne and team! I can’t wait to join you next year at #BConnected Conference 2015!
