It has been exactly a week since the beginning of Lent. For those of you who don’t know, Lent is a religious observance in the liturgical calendar begins on Ash Wednesday and ending approximately six weeks later (around Easter Day). Some people believe it began as token of remembrance for the time that Jesus spent 40 day and 40 nights alone in the desert. It is a time to reflect on ones life and behaviors through prayer, penance and repentance of sin. It is a time to realign your relationship with God. During Lent, many people participate in this self by fasting or giving up certain types of luxuries as a form of penitence.
This year, my DS8 asked if we could participate in Lent as it was being discussed at school. Wanting to encourage him, I asked him to choose the luxuries both he and I would give up. For himself, he choose dessert (very difficult and very thoughtful) and for me, he choose coffee (very difficult!)
Well the snow keeps falling and with three kids, this mama needs a kick in the butt to get her going in the morning. Wanting something hot, I turned to tea as a resolution. I have always been a tea drinker, but when given the choice between tea and coffee, I often favour coffee.
Tea Sparrow – Loose leaf fun in a box, not a bag!
To renew my love of tea, I became a member of the Tea Sparrow family! Tea Sparrow is a world class monthly tea subscription company. Each month, they travel the world tasting hundreds of teas, choose blends that inspire them and ship them to your door. Each month you are treated to approximately 35 cups of delicious tea in four unique flavours that are chosen because of their quality and fresh taste.
My first month subscription was a blast of flavour! When the parcel arrived at the door, I couldn’t wait to break it open and brew my first cup of tea. The hardest part was choosing which flavour to have first! I love that each resealable sachet is well labeled and gives you a vivid description of what you are about to drink, a list of the ingredients included (most of them are organic and fair trade! Double bonus!) and brewing instructions to craft the perfect cup of tea!
This Months Tea Sparrow Teas:
Organic Chai Rooibos – ‘A unique blend of Roobios and six organic spice produces a calming, naturally caffeine free tea. Hand blended on Cortes Island in small batches with the freshest ingredients’
I am a huge Chia lover. The spicy richness of the cinnamon and cloves creates a warm and satisfying cup of tea. This one was not disappointing. From the fragrant opening of the package to the first sip, this tea provided a heat that is sure to turn a cold day around!
Strawberry-Champagne – ‘Sweet and seductive aromatic fruit flavour with a breeze of champagne!’
If you are a fruit lover this tea is for you! It was by far my favourite tea. A green tea base with an explosion of strawberries and tropical fruits, this tea not only looks pretty, but is the perfect companion for tea with a good friend.
Lavender Earl Grey – ‘ The floral aroma of lavender is perhaps the perfect compliment to the sweet citrus and full bodied flavour of Earl Grey’
I’m not a huge fan of the full bodied flavour of Earl Grey tea. When I first tried it, I was ready to trade it in as it tasted like a typical Earl Grey. What caught me off guard was the assault of lavender that is almost an afterthought. This appeal made me appreciate the tea more. It is the perfect pick me up when the kids wake me up to early in the morning!
Organic White Rose – ‘Our enchanted White Rose blends the smoothness of delicate, organic white tea with whole organic rose buds. This sweet and fragrant liaison is as provocative as it is healthy’
Doesn’t the description sound romantic? The loose leaf tea for this tea was so pretty, I almost didn’t want to drink it! A light, yet floral taste is perfect for afternoon tea.
If you are a tea (or even a coffee drinker!), I highly recommend this monthly subscription option! Fresh, unique teas are brought right to your door leading you on a new and exciting adventure each month!
