A quinzhee or quinzee/ˈkwɪnziː/ is a shelter made by hollowing out a pile of settled snow. This is in contrast to an igloo, which is made from blocks of hard snow. (Wikipedia)
I’ve never heard of this term before. We’ve definitely built a quinzhee before…just never called it that. Cool! Love the pics of you and your family. Looks like you all had fun on Family Day 🙂

I’ve never been around enough snow to do something like this. As a kid I always wanted to, but now as an adult I think that much snow would drive me mad! These are great pictures and it looks like you all had so much fun!
We actually had enough snow to make a quinzhee last week for the first time in years. It was actually the good snow that you can actually play in!

I have never heard of the word until now… another new word learned today. I live in the tropics so kids here use other materials to make a “quinzhee.” Thanks for sharing your lovely pics. The kids sure look like they had a lot of fun!

I never had a name for it but for sure my kids and I play in the snow a lot. We have made many things from snow over the years.
