Teaching children to be active at an early age is imperative. From infancy, toddler hood, childhood and into the teens, children learn to communicate and explore the world around them through physical motion and play. By encouraging physical activity and movement at a young age, you help create a healthy life long habit that leads to goods physical and mental health.
This weekend I had the opportunity to introduce my DS5 to a new form of physical activity: skateboarding. He has always loved riding his bike and his scooter but he had never a found a sport that truly inspired him. When I suggested skateboarding, he was very nervous. He was worried about being to small, too inexperienced and worried about getting hurt. Curiosity got the best of him and he agreed to test out Evolve Skate Camp.

Located in Toronto (GTA), Evolve Skate camp travels to the best skateboard parks in the City. Our campers come from all over the city including Toronto, York Region, Mississauga, The Beaches and beyond. Each morning campers are picked up in their area by the Evolve bus and driven right to the skateboard park for a full day of lessons, activities, pool time and other programming. But that’s just the start.
At Evolve Skate Camp we pride ourselves on our coaching and camp staff. Our staff are young, enthusiastic skaters who are available to teach beginners the fundamentals; intermediate skaters new skills; and our advanced campers how to land new tricks. When it’s time to break for lunch or hang out after a day of skating our staff are there to facilitate other camp style programs and act as professional supervision for our campers. Campers learn in a safe, structured and encouraging environment; while having fun and developing new friendships.
From the second they hop on the bus in the morning to the time they are dropped off in the afternoon, Evolve campers are welcomed into the Evolve Skate Camp family.
Evolve Skate Camp welcomed a group of bloggers and their kids to Adventure Valley where they taught, inspired and introduced skateboarding to kids who were new to the sport. The coaches were amazing! From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left, they were 100% focused on the children. They were authoritative and instructional, but also a friend and someone to joke around with. It was a warm, welcoming atmosphere
The lesson began with a group huddle, where the coaches introduced themselves, explained the art of skateboarding, and what they were hoping to get out of today’s lesson. There lesson focused on three major points: 1. Safety 2. Education & 3. Fun! After stretching and limbering up, they suited the kids up in protective gear and began the lesson. The kids learned the basics of how to balance and ride a skateboard, as well as tricks like stepping on the end of the board to catch it and riding the skateboards on their butts. The session was broken up with nutritional breaks and competitive games. The two hour lesson flew by!
The kids had a blast! Every kid was involved, physically active and comfortable in their surroundings. The environment was inviting the DS5 immediately felt comfortable and ready to engage in this new skill. He laughed, he learned that its ok to fall and that trying new skills can be a lot of fun!
Evolve Skate Camp provided a wonderful experience that it gave to my son who has yet found his niche in traditional sports, a sport that is physically active and inspiring! It is a sport he hopes to continue and evolve with in the future!
