Through out school, Greek Mythology was one of those subjects that I could never find time for. It wasn’t that I didn’t find it interesting, intriguing, or magical, but with all of the sciences and math courses that I need to take in order to get into the Kinesiology program, fun courses like Greek Mythology, were passed by. When I first met Percy Jackson in 2010 in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, I found the Greek mythology aspect fascinating. The magic, the story and the different mythical elements that were included in the movie, made me crave more! When I heard Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was coming out, I knew it was a movie I had to see.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was even better then the first! The story carried on from where it left off in the first movie and continued to evolve the characters and plot line. I loved the addition of Percy’s brother, Tyson, and the stereotypical response of how to deal with someone who is physically different. I loved the balance between learning how to be a teenager (relationships, jealous, parental absence) and learning how to be a hero (save the world!). The movie was comical, suspenseful and entertaining. The acting was mediocre and the story loosely followed the novel, but I found the special effects to be attention grabbing. I was a little disappointed that the movie was called Percy Jackson: Sea Monster as we barely saw one! The movie should have been called Percy Jackson & the Golden Fleece as that was the main adventure the heroes embarked on in the movie. Overall, it was an enjoyable movie that my husband and I enjoyed on a cold January night!
We give Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters 3 out 5 hearts
