Toddlerhood is an adventure! No longer is your child completely dependent on you! They are walking, climbing, exploring and in my case, non-stop talking! These new skills give them a sense of independence and one of their favourite places to show this independence is at the dinner table.
Ironically, as your toddler speeds up in the physical aspect of their life, their overall growth slows down. Pound for pound caloric intake is less then it was when they were an infant. As a result, it’s important to ensure that the food you get into your toddler is nutritious.
In my household, dinner time can be hectic. With three children and three different sets of taste buds, its not always easy to please everyone. With my older two, they know that they have to eat what is in front of them or they go without dessert. It is a concept that they comprehend and they understand the consequences of their choice. My DD2, on the other hand, doesn’t understand this concept. If it’s something she doesn’t like, she will flat out refuse to eat it! Finding a solution is imperative!
Recently I was introduced to a NEW feeding line by Nuby: Toddler Solid Feeding. Nuby wanted to create a product that would take parents and toddlers on a fun journey through this new and exciting stage in their development. All of their products were designed to help wean your child off of assisted feeding and assist with their natural development. With bright colours, funny monsters and beautiful flowers, mealtimes just became a lot more fun!
The Nuby iMonster Collection
The set we reviewed was the iMonster collection. I wasn’t sure if DD2 would like this set, as she normally leans towards flowers and the colour pink, but the minute she saw it, it was love at first sight. I barely had time to take the products out of the pack before she was demanding to use them. She loved the bright colours, the funny monster faces and uniqueness of her plate in comparison to her brothers.
iMonster: Snack Keeper
The snack keeper is an adorable monster who stores your child size snacks in the pit of his belly. To retrieve your snacks, you simply reach past his plastic teeth. These soft silicone teeth prevent the snacks from falling over the floor, making snack time more fun and less messy. DD2 love carrying the snack keeper around by his arm. She would talk to him like he was her friend and snack time became more of tea party with a monster then a just a snack.
iMonster: Fork and Spoon
This is one of DD2 favourite pieces. Designed for both left handers and right handers, the fork and spoon provide a large comfortable grip for your toddler’s tiny hands. Light in weight, they are perfect tool to teach your child hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
iMonster: Sippy cup
The adorable monster sippy cup allows your child to hold hands with a monster while drinking from a spill proof cup. The soft silicone spout encourages natural drinking actions while helping to form the soft pallet and being kind to your toddlers new teeth. DD2 thought it was funny to drink out of her monsters nose and mommy loved that DD2 could carry the drink around with her without a trail of juice behind her.
This item has been a life saver! DD2 now gobbles up her food rather then fighting with mommy, when her iMonster plate is the plate on the dinner table. The feet on the bottom of the plate give the plate a wide, steady base of support, the slightly curved edges prevent the food from falling off the plate and the design of the monster’s mouth on the bottom of the plate make a great game of ‘eat your food before the monster does!’. Mealtime becomes fun time instead of a stressful event!
Bight, colourful, well made and durable, the Nuby Toddler feeding set is ideal for any child learning to feed themselves. Dishwasher safe and suitable for hot and cold foods, the Nuby Toddler feeding set can be used with every meal! The only disadvantage I find with this set is I can’t wash it quick enough to meet DD2’s demands for using it again!
