Music is art. Sometimes this art is pleasing and enjoyed by all and other times, what is music to one person is just noise to another. In 1910, Nathaniel Baldwin created an ear piece in his kitchen that forever changed the world; the earphone. What started out as a device used to amplify electrical audio sounds by the United States Navy, soon began as a staple piece of industrial equipment for telephone operators, radio work, etc. It wasn’t until 1958, that a jazz musician from Milwaukee, John C. Koss, produced the first stereo headphone. Today headphones are commonly used for fixed equipment such as CD and DVD players, home theatre and personal computers, as well as mobile devices such as ipods, MP3 players and mobile phones.
My husband is the music lover in our family. He has to have a good stereo in the car, fusses with audio settings on TV to makes sure a movie is coming in clear and thinks he should be the next judge on American Idol or The Voice. Half the time what I think sounds great, he can pick off as being off balanced or off key.
Recently, my husband has taken up running at our local track and was in search of a good pair of headphones to listen to music on his mobile phone. Silly me, I suggested using one of the kid’s earphones or buy a cheap pair from a department store. It wasn’t until I heard what music sounds like when its coming from a quality headphone, that I got a glimpse into the world my husband has been trying to explain to me for years.
Nothing BEATS Beats by Dre from @StaplesCanada
Beats by Dre is a quality line of audio products that have been designed by Beats, Nowl Lee and Ammunition. Each product has been designed and engineered to meet the acoustic standards of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Lovine. Their mission is to elevate the sounds to create a sound that is felt, rather than heard.
The perfect mix of sound and style.
The Beats Solo HD™ headphones are a quality headphone that is both visually and auditory pleasing. They have a sturdy metal frame that provides strength and structure with enough give to allow it some flexibility. It is finished off with a clear-coat finish providing a stylish and classy look. The padding around headband and earcups provide a comfortable and secure fit. The pivoting nature of the earcups allows the headphone to adjust to individual facial contours instantly.
The Beats Solo HD have a tri-fold that allows you to easily carry your headphones in your purse or laptop bag. The neoprene carrying case that is provided with your Beats Solo is a great way to carry your Beat solo with you when they are not in use. Unfortunately, the bag is not rigid, therefore you still have to be careful where you store your Beats Solo HD (i.e. The bottom of your laptop case is not ideal!)
Normally, I hate wearing headphones. The pressure of the earcups on my ears and the constriction of the headband leads to headaches and discomfort within minutes. The design of the Beats by Dre Solo HD were unlike any headphone I had ever used. They were comfortable and secure without being constricting or adding unnecessary pressure. At only 0.35 lbs, I could easily wear these headphones for an hour or longer without pain. The folding nature of the headphones is very convenient, however, I did find that my hair occasionally caught in the hinges.
Beats Solo HD headphones carry the powerful signature sound that Beats by Dr. Dre products are famous for. With two speakers inside each ear cup, you can hear crystal-clear highs and deep, rumbling lows that you normally would miss with another pair of headphones. I am by no means an expert on music, but the moment I heard music play through the Beats Solo HD I couldn’t believe what I had been missing. There was a rich balance of sound that not captured by a regular pair of headphones. Usually I am not a fan of bass sounds as they appear muffled and more like noise rather than music, but with the Beats Solo HD exemplified and smooth sounding. I love the noise cancelling feature of these headphones. When they are on, you are surround by the joy of the music you are listening too without being distracted by outside noise (think DS having a temper tantrum!).
The Solo HD comes equipped with an audio cable featuring a build-in remote mic that is compatible with your smart phone, music player or tablet device. With the use of your voice you can Play, Pause, Skip, Scan your music to hearts content. If you are on your smart phone and a call comes in. You can activate your phone with the remote mic via Answer and End Call commands to keep yourself hand free and on task.
Here’s my husband’s review:
The sound quality is superb on the new Beats by Dre Solo HD. If you do want to listen to music in public places aka public transportation, university campus, dog walks, etc…then I would have to go with this pair. They are the perfect mix of portability and sound. High quality materials lets you be a little rough with them without the fear of destroying your investment. What impressed me was how sweet the vocals were in terms of clarity and vibrato while still letting the instrumentals shine through. I like my music loud and clear, and these delivered.
The Beats by Dre were a huge hit in our household! If you are looking for the perfect Christmas present for teenager, music lover or the person in your office who has bad taste in music, I highly recommend you consider purchasing The Beats by Dre from Staples Canada. It a gift they will love!
