Growing up, I attended many different musicals with my brownie group. I loved the music, costumes and awe of seeing a play I knew, come to life on the stage. When I first heard that they had created Sherk as musical I was excited. Not only is Shrek very popular movie in my household, but would give me the chance to expose my boys, especially my oldest DS7 (who is the age I was when I attended my first musical), to their first musical. When kids read the title Shrek on the DVD they began whooping, hollering and begging to play the DVD right away. About 15 minutes into the DVD, I checked in on the boys and noticed that DS5 had wandered off to play with his toys, but DS7 was glued to the TV. I asked him what he thought. It took him a few minutes to formulate his thoughts, but when he was ready, he explained that it was different then anything else he had seen before, but it was very appealing. He loved the way the actors brought the characters to life and how they used different actors to portray the aging of Fiona in the tower. He thought the songs were inviting and dancing was spectacular. DS7 sat through the entire movie and requested to watch it again a few days later. I believe that this movie is one that you are either going to love or hate. If you don’t love and appreciate musicals, then I don’t recommend this movie.
