As a mother, my main instinct is to keep my children safe at all times. As a baby, I am their sole protector, source of food and caregiver. But as they age, they begin to think, feel and act on their own. As a mother, I can only stand by and provide guidance, understanding and support, but what they do and how they act is totally up to them. My children are still relatively young (7, 5, and 2) and they still need their mother a lot. When they are at school or a friends house, I have to release the need to control and protect them and hope that I have taught them how to protect and think of themselves. It is a constant internal struggle in a mothers heart. As each year passes by, the more independent your child becomes and the less hold a mother has on their life. I can only imagine the struggle my own mother feels, watching her daughter become a mother and live a life of her own. I seriously dread that day.
The Croods is a 2013 comedy adventure that follows the worlds first modern stone age family as they embark on a journey of epic proportions. Like me, Grug is an over protective dad. He believes that “fear is good and change is bad”. His family lives in a cave where Grug can protect and control the threat on his family. The only time the family leaves the cave is to hunt and its a strategic plan of attack that provides Grug with the ultimate control. When his daughter Ebb meets Guy and learns that the world as they know it is changing, she begins to become independent from her father. Like all parents, Grug has a hard time accepting this and tries to rein Ebb in tighter, while directing his anger at Guy. When the cave and his family becomes threatened by generational clashes and seismic shifts, Grug tries to let go of his fear and lead his family safely into the new world.
DH- Fun family movie
DS7 – Its AWESOME! I liked when the dad says ‘release the baby!’
DS5 – I like the end when the Dad saves he animals, even the big pussy cat! That was really cool!
I was very excited when I first heard about the release of this move! I was a huge Flintstones fan and was excited to see my children enjoy a similar themed movie. From the opening credits when the word “THE” fell on the Croods to the final clip, we were in stitches. It was good clean fun! The entire family sat glued to the TV in anticipation to see what would happen next and we were not to be disappointed. I love that it was family movie that every family could relate to. From the crusty mother in law to the wild baby, there was a character for everyone. Family love, sibling rivalry, and disagreements between teen and their parents, this movie is depicted your typical Canadian family in a stone age setting.
If you are looking for a great movie to enjoy with family young and old, I highly recommend choosing the Croods! You will not be disappointed!
