Last week, the kids and I took a trip into the big city to meet up with a bunch of bloggers at a fabulous Let’s Do Lunch event. It was a relaxing event full of great tasting food, fun activities for the kids and glorious sunshine on the Toronto harbour. The host was Blue Goose Pure Foods. I must admit that I had never heard of this company before this event and after reading their website, I was excited to taste what they had to offer.
Blue Goose (formerly known as Blue Goose Cattle Company) is a company that takes pride in a 20 year history of crafting high quality foods. This company brings you fresh, natural tasting food from the farm to your fork. They acknowledge that humans live off the land and in doing so they show respect and dignity to the animals they utilize. They theorize that if they are good to the animals, they in turn will be good to us. None of their products contain antibiotics, hormones, steroids, or additives, so their products are the cleanest proteins available on the market!
Just pure food, the way nature intended it to be.
Along with painting, colouring, stickers, and bubble activities for the kids, we were treated to taste some delicious samples of their products. My kids LOVE hotdogs, so of course all three of them ordered one of those. I was extremely happy to hear that Blue Goose hot dogs contained nothing “above the lips or below the hips”. In other words, Blue Goose uses real meat in their hot dogs, rather than byproducts like some other companies. I’m not a huge fan of hot dogs, but I was interested to see if I could taste a difference. Boy, was it delicious! The hot dog was smooth, delicious and smokey, definitely the best hot dog I have ever tasted! Being more adventurous (and careful to avoid gluten!), I decided to try the watermelon salad and shredded chicken. The combination of the sweet watermelon, salty feta and juicy chicken was a salad to die for!
It was a great afternoon at the harbour! Good food, new friends and our final event of summer! Blue Goose has definitely made me think twice about the protein I feed to my family. It’s nice to find a product that is pure and respectful! If you haven’t tried Blue Goose before check them out at your local Sobeys markets and be prepared for a new meat eating experience!
This week’s Food Friday recipe is my attempt to recreated the Watermelon Salad at home!

- Chop watermelon into 1 cm cubes
- Crumble feta and add to watermelon
- Chop basil in to slivers and add to mixture
