If you are familiar with my blog, you know that I hate laundry! I dislike collecting stinky, used clothing, I loath sorting it into piles, and I dislike remembering to switch the load from the washer to the dryer before the clothes begin to smell moldy and I have to repeat the entire process! Above all of those, I HATE stains! Being a busy, working mom of 3, I don’t have time to sit and scrub clothing that has met its match with stains such as blueberry, spaghetti sauce or worse grease! I’m always on the lookout for a product that will attack these stains so I don’t have to!
My top 4 Stain Tricks:
1. Ink stains: One weekend, I was busy all weekend and forgot about the laundry until Sunday afternoon. Knowing that my husband and I need clean work clothes (me a uniform and him dress clothes) for the next day, I rushed a load of laundry rather than taking the time to check the pockets. The end result was disastrous. My husband had left a ball point pen in his pocket which proceeded to explode all over our work clothing. I remembered a friend told me she got her son’s ink drawings out of her couch with hairspray, so I though why not! Desperate and in a time crunch, I heavily sprayed the inks spots and let them sit for five minutes. Then I washed and dried them normally. To my surprise, most of the pen came out! I repeated it one more time and my clothes came out good as new!
2. Crayons: This summer, DS7 as begun the nasty habit of hiding things in his pocket. One weekend, he placed a crayon in the bottom pocket of his cargo shorts. It was only a little piece, but boy did it do damage!! Orange crayon marked up every aspect of that load. I filled up the washing machine with the hottest water possible and placed the crayoned clothes inside. I let it sit for 10 minutes while I mixed up a solution of 1/2 cup dish soap, 1/2 cup of vinegar, and 1/2 cup of your normal laundry detergent. I poured it, along with 2 cups of boiling water into the washing machine and let it sit for another 10 minutes. I continued the load as normal and was pleased that the end result was clean clothes.
3.All other tough stains: When in doubt, follow the tag!
4. Resolve: My ultimate stain fighter
With three kids under the age of 7, I bound to be hit with a stain once a day. Whether it be wiping the face on their sleeve, laughing at the dinner table and spilling juice down the front of them, or the “it wasn’t me” accident, their clothes always end up stained one way or another! My DD1 is the worse! Being little, independent and strong willed, she wants to do EVERYTHING herself. There is one stain that ends up on her shirt no matter how careful or how well her bib is situated. That stain is strawberries! For some reason, out of all of the colours in the rainbow, RED is the hardest stain to remove! She was wearing one of my favourite summer jumpers, a white dress with coloured polka dots and like a magnet, the red strawberry was attracted to her clothes. I was devastated. It wasn’t fully white, so bleach was out of the question, so I asked a friend if she had any tricks of the trade. She introduced me to Resolve crystal white powder. I mixed a bit with water and let it sit on the stain for 10 minutes. Then I threw it in with my white and added another scoop of the Resolve Crystal white powder to my load. The results were fantastic! No scrubbing dabbing or stress, only 10 minutes of pre-treating and wash like normal and the RED strawberry stain was gone! I couldn’t even find the spot where it was! As well, the entire load of whites came out brighter and cleaner then when I use my normal detergent alone! From grass to grease, there is nothing resolve won’t fix. I’m hooked! Never shall my laundry room be without it again!
