When you think of a curling iron, you probably think of the traditional curling iron that has a clamp. You simple place the hair between the clamp and the barrel and curl your hair by twisting the curling iron in a circular motion. Like all great inventions, they improve and expand. The newest version of the curling iron hitting professional salons everywhere is the clamp-less curling iron. Unlike the traditional curling iron, the clamp-less curling iron works different. Using a heat resistant glove, you slowly wind the hair around the cone to create the curls you desire. It is simple to do and allows you to achieve professionally styled hair with minimal effort.
Benefits of a clampless vs traditional:
No pesky Clamp! The clamp can be awkward and a struggle to use. Without there is no chance of kinking or creasing the hair! Instead your are left with clean, flawless curls.
You can get closer to the root. Because you are beginning the winding action at root, it is the first section of your hair that comes in contact with the heat and the last section to be removed from the heat. This allows the curl to stick and hold in an area that is usually does not see a lot of heat.
No heat damage on the ends of your hair. Your tips are the most fragile aspect of your hair. They are the oldest, subject to the most trauma and often contain split ends. Because you are holding the tips of your hair in your hand, the tips are hitting the barrel last. This means they are exposed to less heat, resulting in less damage.

I was intrigued by the concept of the Cortex 1 inch curling iron when I first saw it; it was clamp less. Although its appearance is sleek and simple, me not being well versed in the art of hair, I was worried that it would be too complicated of me to use. Determined to accept the challenge, I stood in front of my bathroom mirror and went to work. The first thing I noticed was that the Cortex 1 inch curling iron got hot quickly! Seconds after plugging it in, heat was radiating through the entire length of the cone and remained there until I turned it off. It was so hot that occasional I could feel the heat through the protective gloves. To my surprise, the clamp-less curling iron was very simple to use. It was easy to manipulate the hair around the barrel and I felt like I had a lot of control. The convenient swivel cord prevented and twisting and tangling, which made the entire process easy for some inexperienced like my. TI loved the end results! After only 20 minutes, I had an entire head of sexy soft curls and my hair felt smoother and silkier then ever before!
How I achieved sexy waves in 15 minutes:
1. Plug in the Cortex 1 inch curling iron and allow to heat (30 seconds). Place on heat resistant glove
2. Separate hair into sections. I have thick hair so I began at the bottom and worked my way out.
3. Grab 1 inch section strands of hair (bigger or smaller depending on the size of curl you want to obtain) and holding it at the tip, begin wrapping the hair from the root on top of the barrel and wrap until all of the hair is rolled up.
4. Hold for 30 seconds and release.
5. Grab another section of hair and repeat the process.
6. Work your way, layer by layer, until your hair is complete.
7. When reaching a bang-like section, you may want to reverse your curl by rolling it under the barrel rather than over to achieve a more natural look!
