Until the last few years, religion has never played a huge role in my life. I went to Sunday school as a child, but rather than absorbing what they were preaching, I thought of it as another school lesson. As I grew, my curiosity for religion blossomed. I was very excited to get the opportunity to review this DVD. Although I have been an active member of my church for the last three years and have heard the scripture applied to daily life, but I have never sat down and read the entire bible. I knew half stories and some of the main characters of the bible, but I didn’t have a full understanding.
I began watching the series on TV, but found it hard to follow and the week in between episodes was too big of a cliffhanger. I love the idea of owing the DVD and being able to watch it in one complete sitting, in the comfort of my own home. The DVD was breath taking. I was hooked from the moment “God created the heaven and the earth” to the moment Jesus ascended into heaven. I found the DVD very enlightening and a good portrayal of events and the people mentioned in my weekly church sermons. Jesus, played by Diogo Morgado, was amazing. I found myself falling in love with his actions and swayed by his words. Although, I would have loved to share these stories with my children, there were some very graphic scenes that are too much of them. Some scenes caused me to turn away in repulsion, but I feel the violence and gore is needed to portray the powerful messages sought after and to accurately depict the stories in the timeframe they took place in. This is a terrific portrayal the historical events that are sure to explain, enlighten, and impress everyone who believes and wants to believe in the power of Jesus.
