I love the newborn smell. There is something so appealing about the soft, fresh smell of a newborns head. I remember reading in one of my prenatal books, that a women’s attraction to the smell of a newborn is the result of oxytocin being released from the brain. Studies show that in animals, you can convince an ewe (female sheep) to foster an unrelated lamb by squirting oxytocin up the ewe’s nose then presenting the lamb. I wonder if its the same reason Mom’s bond to the smell of their newborns?
Unfortunately, that newborn smell doesn’t last long. Once feedings kick in, the sweet smell of a newborn is often replaced by the putrid smell of soiled diapers. When my boys were babies, I thought that a diaper pail was a waste of money. Why would I spend money on a glorified garbage can, when I could just make due with the one I already had? Surly I would have the extra two minutes it requires to take the stinky diapers to the garbage in the garage right? BIG MISTAKE. Quite often my beautiful, classic Pooh bear nursery would smell of day old soiled diapers rather than the fresh smell of a baby. The garbage can I used would slightly mask the smell, but as soon as you opened it to put a ‘fresh’ diaper in, the smell would again consume the room.
Arm & Hammer™ Diaper Pail by Munchkin takes the ordinary diaper pail to a whole new level! With patented odor control system that features the power of Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda and a self-sealing lid that locks in odors, the chance of your beautiful nursery smelling is history!
When your baby is wriggling on the change table and you are up to your elbows in poop, the last thing you want to be doing is fumbling around with your diaper pail. The design team at Munchkin took this into account and created a diaper pail that is easy to load and allows you to toss the diaper quickly to get back to the task at hand. Partnering with Arm & Hammer allows the Munchkin diaper pail to rise above the others. Not only is Arm & Hammer known for their deodorizing power, but for their quality and time releasing properties. When teamed up with the Munchkin diaper pail, you are sure to have a product that will safely absorb odors over a 90 day period, while keeping the room smelling clean and fresh!
Being a diaper pail skeptic, I was curious to see if the Arm & Hammer™ Diaper Pail by Munchkin could truly combat the odors produced by an 18 month girl on solid foods. I was very impressed that the diaper pail came assembled in one piece. I was able to open the box, easily install the bag without reading the instructions, and deposit a diaper within a few minutes. Each bag holds up to 25 (Stage 1 diapers) and is easy to snap, seal and toss when full. The Arm & Hammer™ Diaper Pail by Munchkin is a solid container that was able to withstood the ‘testing’ of my DS5 and DS7 who dragged the pail down the stairs and the prying fingers of my 18 month old who was determined to open it (but NEVER DID!). The release mechanism required a finger push followed by a pull upwards on the handle. It was easily done with one hand and without the use of sight. With a gentle push the lid was easily closed creating a self sealing system that tightly locked odors away. I love how the diaper pail dispenses natural baking soda each time the lid is closed. I can honestly say that the diaper pail sat in my living room, baking in sun all day and I have yet to smell the odors of a dirty diaper.
