Chasing Mavericks is an inspirational movie about a poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks looking for a way to be happy and free. After nearly drowning in a rip tide, he feels the coll of the ocean and sees surfing as his pathway to happiness. With the help of Frosty, his savior and a pro surfer, Jay aims to prove himself to a town that has written him off by conquering a mythological giant wave, a Maverick.
Kids now is a new program in certain regions of Canada (GTA, Edmonton, Saint Johns, and Fredericton). It provides an after-school mentoring program for children in a grade 7 and 8. This twelve week course, with the help of volunteers, equips youth with essential life-success skills that enable them to make positive choices, increase their self-awareness, confidence and communication skills.
Eva’s Phoneix is an initiative program that is geared towards 16-24 year old who are homeless or at-risk to keep them off the streets permanently. Since 2002, they have provided beds to 160 teens a year and engaged them in employment and per-apprenticeship programs. Through mentor-ship and positive role models, the teens learn valuable life skill (i.e. Cooking, interview skills, etc) to gain a stepping stone to change their life.
