Muffin Top, love handles, Pooch… Why do we have such cute names for the unflattering parts of our bodies? When you are pregnant, it is the most beautiful experience ever! Your body grows and flourishes to accommodate and protect your child. I loved watching my belly expand and my skin becoming taunt as the months flew by. My breasts were the largest they have ever been, the “fat” I gained was was deemed acceptable (and encouraged!) and there was a ‘glow’ about me that radiated from my smile to my toes!
I am now 5 years post pregnancy (my last). I have three beautiful children, two new health challenges (Celiac disease and Hypothyroidism), and a body my teenage self would not recognize. I have dark circles under my eyes that can not be covered up no matter how much concealer I use. My once flat stomach is now littered with rolls and lumps. My curvy hips have been replaced with extra padding. My once perky breasts are now streaked with stretch marks and resemble two empty sacs. If you are viewing my body for the first time, it probably doesn’t seem too appealing. It is a far cry from the models seen on TV or in magazine. However, knowing that my body housed and created three beautiful children may make you see it differently. The extra fat that I carry around my midsection provided food and protection for my growing fetus. The stretch marks shows that my body was too small to carry all the love I had inside. My breasts may resemble empty sacs, but once they provided nourishment and health to my baby in the minutes after birth. When you view my body this way, it is a temple where tiny toes and fingers, a beating heart and tiny brain was once created. These changes make my body beautiful.
Instead of fighting these changes in my body, I am slowly starting to embrace them! I have recently come across a company, Svelte that creates clothing so that I can feel comfortable in my own skin. No more hiding it under baggy shirts and yoga pants (Although they will forever be my favorite!). They believe that ‘clothes should be a source of confidence, not stress, they should work with your body, not against it’. Svelte was created by an entrepreneur with two kids, she wanted clothing that was comfortable, versatile and that made her new silhouette look amazing! The shape-wear products on the market were designed to hide fat and rolls, but too often they would be hidden in the back of the closed because they were too constricting and uncomfortable. She believed there had to be a way to look good without sacrificing comfort. ‘Svelte‘ was born! It was designed to respect the female body and meet individual needs. Clothing such as denim, leggings, shorts, skirts & tank tops are among their most sought after pieces. Whether you need to dress up for the boardroom, or feel great at a PTA meeting, ‘Svelte‘ has you covered.
I have tried many shape-wear products in the past. One will flatten my tummy, but enhance my muffintop. Others will slim me down, but I can’t breath never mind eat for the entire period I’m wearing it. All of the shape-wear I have tried in the past, I have worn for an hour or two before I’m extremely uncomfortable and dying to take it off. When I tried Svelte denim, I was pleasantly surprised. The entire garment was lined with a 4-way stretch fabric that shapes your silhouette without constricting you. The fabric is stretchy and breathable. It allows you to enjoy running around with your kids and going about your daily activities without feeling restricted. The quality is fabulous. It is a sturdy, yet soft denim, which is the perfect thickness to provide support without being overbearing. These are definitely MOM jeans you can be proud to wear!
