In a technology world, it isn’t surprising that kids these days gravitate towards video games, apps and TV shows. There are so many different options on the market today, it becomes cumbersome being a parent trying to find a game that is age appropriate, violence free and teaches your children skills to help them excel in the future. Having played many many apps, I have seen some that have fabulous graphics but no teaching value or great life lessons but don’t resonate with the child, but rarely do I come a cross an app that builds on children’s natural sense of curiosity, experimentation and self-expression that Sago Mini does! Their open-ended play experiences that give children a sense of mastery and ownership, while working on skills such as art, problem solving and forward thinking.
Although, I love the learning ability of the Sago Mini app, there are times that my children need to be pulled away from their screened devices and focus on other life skills, like imagination, creativity, etc. When screen time was taken away, I found that my children would recreate they scenes, situations and experiences that they had with apps and games they played. One of the frustrating things with Sago Mini, was that although they created plush characters from the app, DD4 wanted something more!
Sago Mini – Portable Play set: Jinja’s House
I’m excited to share with you the Sago Mini has just released their first play set – Jinja’s House. As an extension to the apps, the Sago Mini team has created physical toy to build on kids’ natural sense of wonder, creativity, and and love for this app.
Jinja’s House is a portable and easy to carry play set with everything you need to recreate your favourite scenes from the Sago Mini series. It is made with a coated board book cardboard material, which makes it light weight and durable and comes with plastic figurines (Jinja and Rosie) and accessories are plastic.
As a parent, I love all of the little details included; from the baseball in the fridge to the duel performance of the ladder to the mail slot and postcards (Every mail woman’s daughter’s dream!)! The best part is that it folds up in seconds and stores everything inside. This allows DD4 to take it everywhere with her, yet easily store it on her bookshelf.
