What type of chef are you?
In my opinion, there are two types of chefs. The chef that walks into the kitchen and creates a delicious meal by throwing random items into a pot. The other, is the chef that follows the directions word for word and creates an equally delicious. I am definitely the latter. Although I wish I knew if a recipe need more parsley or more chili powder, but alas I do not. The only spice that I do know how to add accurately is garlic!
April is Garlic Month!
Garlic, also known as Allium sativum is a member of the onion genus, along with leeks, chives and shallots. Categorized as both an herb and a vegetable, this delicious spice is used in everything from pasta sauces to seasoning on meat to the perfect partner for a spread on a fresh loaf. It is estimated that North American’s consume roughly 2 lbs of garlic a year.
Found in kitchens all around the world since 3150 BC, our long-standing love affair with garlic is also known for its health benefits as well. With the power to lower blood pressure, reduce incidences of some types of cancer and can even help to treat acne, its no wonder that Garlic is a flavour my favourite spice!
To celebrate Garlic Month, I decided to put Sabra’s Roasted Garlic Hummus to the test in a new recipe. Packed with the bold flavour of finely roasted garlic, this hummus is deep, rich and satisfyingly tasty and makes the perfect addition to any kitchen creation. I decided to combine it with the world’s healthiest grain and create a gluten free, vegetarian patty that is perfect on a gluten free bun or bed of lettuce.
