When DH and I started the search for our first house, we had a list of must-have items that we wanted, including things like location, lots of storage, and an en suite bathroom in the master suite, were just a few of the items we looked for. As we began to examine our finances and what was available on the market, our must-have list began to shrink to conform with availability in our area. After a thorough house search, we settled into a two bedroom townhouse. It had a 3 sided fireplace, a huge master bedroom and a beautiful en suite with separate tub and shower. That house was amazing when it was just the two of us. As our family grew, we grew out of the house and need to find a new one.
Our search for a new house began similar to our first one. We created a list of MUST-HAVE items and so we weeded through the available houses on the market. After some time, we found a beautiful 3 bedroom detached house. It seemed to be perfect for our growing family. As I began to unpack, I realized I had more stuff then places to store it. One area that this was especially true was in the kitchen. No longer, did I seem to have a place and spot for all my pots, pans and bowls. After several de-cluttering sessions, I still found myself very cramped and still lacking space, especially in my pots and pans cupboard.
Here are three spacing techniques I came up with to store my pots and pans:
1. Stacking pots and lids– This is very easy to do. When you are done using a pot, you place the lid on and stack it according to size.
Pro: You always know where your pot lid is.
Con: It can become very unstable and topple over! It can also take up a lot of space.
2. Store lid separate from pots – For this technique, I use a separate cooking dish to gather and hold all of the lids. Beside the lids, I stack the pots in one another.
Pro: Pots fit nicely inside one another. It is a great space saver.
Con: I can never find the right lid when I want one. The lids become a mess when I use the cooking dish that is storing them.
3. Tfal Ingenio Gourmet Collection – This collection is not only sponsored by the fabulous and reliable Tfal name, but it is designed with space saving needs in mind. These polished 18/10 stainless steel exterior pots and pans are both dishwasher and oven safe. Since they are Tfal boast the brand’s signature Thermo-Spot technology and helpful measurement notches, at home cooks can easily tell the temperature and amount at a simple glance. Pro: They neatly stacks in kitchen cupboards and drawers without awkward handles taking up valuable handle space. The glass lids are designed to allow the handles to collapse so that you can stack them easily.
Con: Nothing when it comes to space saving.
