Strolling for a new ride! Chicco Echo Stroller #review

A stroller is a Mom’s best friend! Having had 3 children, I have learned it is one of the most essential pieces of baby equipment on the market. It carriers your child when they are tired, it straps them in when they need to be confined and it doubles as a shopping cart! Choosing the right stroller is a very important decision. In some ways, you can think of a stroller as your child’s first ‘car’. The trouble is finding the stroller that works best for your family and meets your stroller needs. Although you may think you know what you want in a stroller (i.e. comfort, durability, and safety) there are many other features you may not have considered! I have had over 8 strollers throughout my journey of Motherhood. Some were bought out of necessity (i.e. a sit and stand), some were bought with extensive research and others were given to me as presents (i.e. baby shower).

I was curious to see which features were most sought after when purchasing a new strollers so I did a survey of 10 women to see what their top three stroller features were. Here are the results:

From my survey, it appears that the top three features that Moms look for when choosing a stroller are as followed:

EASY to open and shut– If you are a mom, you know you are rarely doing one thing at a time. Usually you are balancing your child on your hip, opening the stroller while carrying a diaper bag, a purse, a snack and the baby’s bottle. A good stroller can be easily opened or shut with minimal steps and can be done quickly and efficiently.

Storage Area – Traveling with a baby is never a simple grab and go process. Let’s face it babies need a lot of stuff! A large storage area is essential to carry all things baby and whatever groceries or additional things (i.e. sand toys for the park) you may need to cart along!

Size  – When choosing the size of a stroller, Moms tend to focus on two elements: weight and the ability to easily store it in the trunk of their car.

Now that my youngest child is almost two, I don’t require a large stroller. What I do need is a stroller that is easy to transport, provides a seat when little legs get tired and a comfortable place for my DD to nap when we are on the go. When I was given the opportunity to review the Chicco Echo Stroller, I was interested to see if it would meet the expectations of myself and other Moms!

CHICCO Echo Stroller

The Echo is a lightweight, Italian style stroller that has more features than a traditional umbrella stroller. Whether its a trip to the grocery store, leisurely walk in the park or a place to rest, the Echo provides a padded, reclining seat with four positions. Additional features such as a cup holder, a full coverage canopy, a compact fold and carry handle makes it the ideal stroller to easy travel and storage. It would work well for your 20-month old and can accommodate my 4-year old too.

Product features:

Stroller Collage

-Light weight and ultra-compact

-Embroidered, padded seat pad

-European wheel styling

-5 point safety harness with central buckle cover strap

-Adjustable, reclining backrest (4 position)

-Adjustable leg rest (2 positions)

-Swivel wheel option

-Large, removable storage basket

-Parent cup holder

-Removable canopy with summer option

-Locking mechanism on Closing feature

Pros: After having owned 8 strollers in the past 8 years, I must say this is one of my favourites. I loved that it was easy to put together, it was sturdy enough to withstand the weight of DS5, but is light enough for me to lug around. I love its compact size and handle that allows me to easily store it in the trunk of my car while leaving room for additional things like groceries, diaper bags etc.  I love that it functions like an umbrella stroller but maintains features of a larger stroller (i.e. padding for comfort, cup holder for the parents and a large storage bin). I found the stroller very easy to maneuver and recline with one hand (this comes in very handy when toting three kids around!). Opening and closing this stroller was a breeze! I love that there is a locking mechanism on the closing aspect of the stroller. I have had other umbrella strollers where curious siblings push buttons and they have collapsed the stroller with their other sibling inside. The 5 point harness is essential to prevent tipping of the stroller and allows you to use this with babies as soon as they are able to hold up their head on their own.

Cons: Since this stroller is made for an older child, it does not provide you with the ability to attach an infant carrier.

Conclusion: I truly love my Chicco Echo Stroller and wish I had learned about it when I had my first child! I love the comfort and security it provides my child while providing a light weight, easy to use stroller for me! I’m also happy to report that it meets all of the expectations from my poll about what Mom’s look for when selecting a stroller.

  1. What a great stroller! I love how it folds up like that. So compact!

  2. The stuff they make for kids just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it? Wish this had been around when my kids were young.

  3. Jonnie

    Chico was founded in 1958.

  4. yes, they must do well as a grocery cart right?? that’s the sad part of growing out of the stroller stage, losing that storage!

  5. 1958 is a long time, no wonder it’s a trusted name. :)

  6. I don’t have kids, but it’s weird, I’ve been noticing strollers around and wondering how people choose which ones they use…after all you have the “gourmet” strollers and the affordable ones….which are really what you should get? Your survey has definitely opened my eyes, thank you!

  7. I love all the Chicco strollers! I was using one – when we lived in Europe- and could not find one- in USA (for a long time) so I am really happy to hear that is getting more popular now :) Really a great stroller.

  8. MadeInCanarias

  44. Wonderful review and love the pictures! I haven’t gone through as many strollers as you, but very picky about when I spend money on them. If shopping I would keep Chicco in my mind as a place to start. My top would be price, gotta be in budget before I even look deeper at it.

  45. Erin

Wow, they were founded in ’58!

  46. That is such a cute stroller! I love how many colors it comes in. Looks super comfy for baby too!

  47. Jennifer @ Money Aches

My boys became a part of my family when they were 3 and 4 so I never had to purchase a stroller. Just watching others struggle with getting large strollers in and out of vehicles I would think a middle of the road size would be best. Based on your chart I wonder how many parents ever consider the comfort of a stroller for their child.

  48. Katherine

Looks like an amazing stroller! Wish I had one of these when my kids were littler

My brother and his family just took a cross-country road trip and stopped to visit us, and I fell in love with their new Chicco Echo stroller!! So strong and compact and perfect! So I got on-line to look for one of my own, and came across this page- again, perfect! : ) I had never heard of Chicco before and assumed it was new, but apparently the company was established in 1958 and has been building its reputation for a while – I think I’m hooked! (Perhaps on Chicco, and your blog! Thanks for a fun give-away!)

  129. Melissa Finn

    They were founded in 1958.

  130. Chicco strollers are known for making strolling convenient for parents and comfortable for babies. Artsana, the Company that makes Chicco strollers, was founded on the shores of legendary Lake Como in Italy in 1946, making the Company 67 years old. Its Founder was Pietro Catelli. Pietro’s son Enrico joined the Company when he came of age, and Enrico’s nickname was Chicco (pronounced Kee-ko).

  131. Thank you for such a detailed review. I was wondering how do you like the wheels? They are small and made out of plastic. I found it hard to push a 3 year old. Susan

  132. I was leary of the plastic wheels too. They have lasted a long time and I had no problem pushing my DD3 around in it
